Aaron Jon's Story

My name really is Jon Adkins, but nobody would remember me as Aaron. I have been Aaron since 1985, after I graduated from EBHS. The truth is, I never liked High School very much. It wasn't for me. My grades really bit the dust, and I had very few friends back then, but I truly did blossem. I moved to Morgantown, WV in 1986 to go to WVU (International Studies Major) but fell in love and quit school. Long story made short...I fell in love again 1998, moved to Fairmont, WV where I started and finished two degrees at Fairmont State University (Sociology and Psychology). I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant and Phlebobomist for 19 years, but worked and went to school at the same time. I tried many times to get into FSU's Nursing Program, but never did...so, I decided to take an alternate route. I applied for the Peace Corps 2 years ago, and after a lot of waiting, they sent me to Guinea (West Africa). I speak 8 languages now. When I return from Guinea, I would like to enter the Peace Corps Fellows Program at John's Hopkins University, finish my education in Nursing (BSN) by 2011. It's a long route, like I said, but I'd say a very good foundation. Currently, I am working with Public Health in a small town in the Haute Region in North Eastern Guinea. You can see my pictures and videos on Myspace (aaronfairmont88). Who would have thought back then that I'd be the guy that experienced child birth, bandaging booboos of tribal people of Africa. I'm honered and proud to represent the United States by working overseas, expanding global education in Nutrition/HIV-Aids Education/& Vaccinations. I do everything to pack wounds to teach proper venipuncture techniques. It will be a great nursing foundation (I have tons of experience). Once I get my BSN from JHU in Baltimore, Maryland my wings will take off once again, and hopefully land me with a wonderful job with the (WHO) World Health Organization, Peace Corps, or another area where I can utilize languages, nursing, Public health, and all of the other experiences I've had. Life sure has taken me further than I ever thought I'd go. I started out working at...Expand for more
Heck's in Quincy...and here I am. I am doing what I always knew I'd be doing and that is working with world peace, just in a different way. I don't think anyone will remember the little guy, who could have been head cheerleader and done a back-flip over the top of the bleachers with his eyes closed, or remember the guy who danced to "let's hear it for the boy" by gosh who knows what singer at that time period. But, I did work as a library aid...quiet that I was. Good luck playing..."Guess who I was." I doubt you'll remember. In any case...Hello to all of those who do. I hope all of your journeys have been as interesting or more interesting than mine. Best of luck and my blessings to you all. Aaron "Jon" Adkins I always wanted to be a Teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were kind of right. Dance with my village in West Africa. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have patience, knowledge, and language ability to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My heros are everyday people who can survive from day to day doing what they strive to do. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Robbin Blackshire, because she was the one who kept me the most company from my second grade classes to sixth grade, and I would also like to see Kelly Raines and Kelly Neely.. I love to go to bars and dance with my shirt off...Pittsburgh, Charleston, Huntington, etc. I'm kind of famous for it. I'm a former Mr. Gay West Virginia 1999. I'd really like to See Mr. Shipston again from George Washington Elementry and Mr. Greg Brown from East Bank High School...Hot Hot Hot! If I won $100 million, I'd give most of it to the people in my life who need it the most, then spend the rest on a new house, education and other bills. Other than Mr. Shipston, Sheila McCoy was my first crush (complicated). I think she got married in Buffalo WV, and had a dozen kids. In 10 years, I hope to be a nurse and also be working with the World Health Organization or United Nations. I'm going to get there by hard work on the rest of my education...and lots of student loans.
