Adam's Story
Life
After high school, I moved to Fairfax, VA to attend GMU. After one year there(2 full semesters), my parents pulled me out of school and I came back to VA Beach to live at home. I obviously had a blast while it lasted. I eventually got a job at ECPI doing Technical Help Desk work. After a few months of that, I decided I would try to make a career out of it. I enrolled for classes there in the fall as an IT/Networking Major. At mid-point in the program my parents moved to Chester, VA. I followed to finish school at the Moorefield ECPI campus at Midlothian. Because I had been a CS major at GMU, I trasnferred a few credits from that to my new major and was able to start my internship around Oct. of 2000. Through the school's job placement program, I was able to land a job with a temp agency who put me on a few small jobs working for Compaq. Through a good reference at those jobs I was able to land a temp agency spot at First Health Services Coporation in Glen Allen, VA. I went from 2, to 4, to 5 days a week and by April of 2001 they had hired me on full time as a Level 2 LAN admin. I bega...Expand for more
n working as a senior desktop support specialist, but assisting in every area of support possible. We started off with 8 people in our department. I bought my first car in August 2001, a red Subaru WRX. I work on it on a weekly basis and it is one of my main hobbies. The First Health Services Technical Call center opened under our supervision in 2002. I built my first home(end unit townhome) in Richmond, VA in may of 2003 and moved in October 2003. In mid-2004 we began a network merger with our parent company, First Health Group. In October of 2004 I accpeted a position as a Project Coordinator for the corporate side, working specifically with the IO department. I began my transition into Project Management at this point.
UPDATE
My work eventually took me back to VA Beach as a contractor, where I worked as a ITS/Facets Project Manager for Amerigroup. This only lasted for a few months, and I ended up moving back into my home in Richmond.
I am currently on a contract as a Project Scheduler for Philip Morris, operating out of the new Center for research and Technology in downtown Richmond.
