Adell's Story

Life I am 12 years separated from my husband - who has given me the most precious gifts of my life - my three sons: 1) Roger, Jr. (23 years old); 2) Emmanuel "Manny" (22 years old); and 3) Matthew (20 years old). Three men who are and will remain "my strength" - "my rock" and "my foundation" - only the Good Lord means more, as He is my "salvation." In all that I've been through, the "one thing" that has been consistent is "God" - even when I didn't have the sense to know better - He was that "nudge" in my back. I have to give praise where praise is due, as I am in a better place now (mentally) than I was during those times. I am fifteen years employed by the Department of Social Services and ten years with Children Services of Roxbury. I graduated from Chamberlayne with a degree in Fashion Retail Merchandising/Management - but soon afterwards lost interest in the field. I recently attended UMass Boston to complete my degree in Social Work/Human Services, but I'm in hiatus due to my sons being in college. $$$$! A sacrifice I don't regret. Ssssshhhh! As quiet as it's kept - I've written two books "Like A Bottle of Water,..." and "Uncle Rosie" which I plan to publish, with a 3rd in mind. That's if I can ever be satisfied and call and of them "finished." The problem is, when I put them down, I put them down for months and have to reread, etc... You heard it here first folks. Hope everyone...Expand for more
reading this has had a happy - eventful and fulfilled life. Life is to short. Kick your shoes off and have fun (no one will notice the corns and bunions). SMILE!!! Life is about being good to people and doing the right thing. Therefore, "Be who you are - and say what you like, because those mind don't matter - and those matter don't mind." WORKPLACE......... I started with the Department of Social Services (DSS)in 1993 as a Clerk/Secretary in the Arlington Office. I transferrred to the Cambridge office - then finally to Boston to be closer to home. Being in Boston peaked my interest and pursuaded me to return back to school and continue my education. Many of the clients and children I have encountered at DSS were folks I knew or had associations with via friends, community involvement, etc... I was promoted to Social Worker Technician in 1997. In this position (my most rewarding) I conducted and completed all Independent Adoption home studies per the request of the Suffolk Probate and Family Court, among other tasks. I am also employed by A New Leaf Program, subsidiary of Children Services of Roxbury. I am the 3rd shift Supervisor (11 pm to 7 am); as well as the Medication Coordinator. This job has also been a very rewarding experience as I get to work hands-on and advocate for the children in our care. A group home facility housing female adolescents/teenagers between the ages of 13 to 18.
