Alan's Story
I was the first evacuee from London in Los Angeles in July 1940. I moved with my host family (and my brother) to Columbus Ohio in 1944, and then in 1944 to Mamaroneck, (in Greenhaven). I delivered papers after school , even in a hurricane! I played baseball and got hit in the mouth by a baseball bat which slipped out of the hands of the guy in front of me- stiches inside the lip! ketball. My very good classmate was Virginia Cluck. We went back to Britain in July 1945. I enjoyed my time at school and appreciated the friends I made there. I was 12 when I left the US of A.
After schooling in Sussex England, I spent 4 years training to be an accountant, but after that I did 2 years National Service with the RAF and then entered College, and immigrated to Australia wher I live now with my wife. I have 4 children and 9 grandchildren and have just retired aged 77.
