Albert's Story
Life
I've been married since 1965 to Mary Diane (Olsen-Crawford High 1964). We have two children, Lynnette a schoolteacher and Albert a corrections officer/State investigator. Our daughter gave us a new granddaughter (our first) Matilda Diane, of course she is the prettiest I've seen. I'm retired and living in Oregon where I have an antiques business. My wife Diane is a hairdresser and has her own business. I still attend school taking classes ranging from anthropology to yoga. We have a dog, Molly, and two cats Olive who is 20 years old and Kiki who is part bobcat we found her as a kitten and raised her by hand, the vet just loves giving her shots. We have 21/2 acres and back up to National forest, so it is nice and quiet, we love it although I do miss the beach.
College
I went to several colleges and Jr. colleges before graduating. All my college experience was during the night or off campus, so there were no frats or parties except for going out for a beer after cl...Expand for more
ass. I used the G.I. bill to finance my studies so I made out as far as expenses went.
Military
Ah, the military. I joined the Marine Corps in 1966, went through boot camp (which was a story in its self) and was then assigned to Camp LeJeune North Carolina, I served with 2nd recon for about three months before being transferred to WesPac and South Viet Nam. I served with 1st Bn. 9th. Marines(The Walking Dead) and was wounded twice in seven months. We were working in the DMZ area and I was at or at least near the Rockpile, Con Thien, Khe Sahn, Dong Ha, Cam Lo, Street without Joy and we fought most of our battles on the mountains in and around those areas. I had some real bad times but some good ones too, lost good friends and have friends for life, closer than any other people I have known. I was wounded a third time while attached to the 3rd Bn. 26th Marines in the Phu Bai area which put me in Balboa Naval Hospital for six months where I was retired out of the service.
