Alfred's Story

Life! HARD WORK MAY NOT MAKE YOU HEALTHY, WEALTHTY OR WISE! But, hopefully at least Wiser! 1992-present: Still Working, Trying, hopefully to really retire from work some day!. Would have liked to travel more, but if fuel cost keep being a problem may have to bicycle or "walk about"! 1992: Retired, USAF Around 11yo I was given an "English Racing Bike" for Christmas. First bike I remember having. Only had it a few weeks when, I was sitting on the bike on the side of the road, just talking with friends & a car hit me. One bike wheel was bent & was going to cost more than a new, less expensive, single speed bike $30. So that's all my Stepfather would get. Car driver didn't even offer to pay, eventhough it was his fault. So I ended up with the less expensive single speed bike & the English Racer got stuck in the rafters under the carport. Still, I was glad to have a bike & rode it for the next 5 yrs. 11-12yo Gulf Breeze, Fl. Helped a Neighbor add on a room so he gave me a 12" Mexican fighting Knife. I'm sure I was only minimal assistance but he was kind to give me a present for trying to help. I was actually learning more about construction & some carpentry from him. Family moved to Panama City, Fl. half way through the 7th Grade. Went to Jenks Jr. High. I stayed there to finish the 9th grade then went to Bay High for the 10th. Probably the longest I was in one school or area! *Work: I Cut Lawns with a friend, Larry. Wasn't much money for both of us so I changed to a different job. *work: Changed to Kinney Shoes Panama City, Fl. -After School, Sat & Summer. Accordng to my Soc, Sec. Record I was 14 yo then. My Friend Steve got a small elect. motor for a Present to use on a 10 ft. wooden Dingy we found and repaired. The Side was out & a hole in the bottom. We repaired it at Larry's. First time they tried to use the elect motor, I was out of town, Steve ended up washing across the Bay and rescue was searching for him. Found him the next day at Redfish point area. The USAF picked him up in a jeep. He was fine until he cut his chin open on the jeep, while they were bringing him to the base & had to have stitches, . At 14 yo my First Crush (I think): A classmate & Beautiful, Popular girl at Jenks Jr. High, who probably didn't know I thought about her. I guess I felt she was too attractive & popular for me to approach. I went to my first concert, Brenda Lee. She sang great at 13 yo & was my age. I was still riding that single speed bike everywhere, I biked 20 mi. to buy her record, on a 33-1/3 LP. 14yo I wa Baptized at First Bap, Panama City, Fl. We Moved to Ga. In the summer after my 10th grade at Bay High. Only entertainment in town was a community swimming pool where I met my Second Crush. We laughed & enjoyed the pool but I never did ask her out. *Work: I helped my family remodel an old building into a Dime Store & worked the Soda Fountain; I also worked Tobacco Fields & Curing Barns for the summer. We Moved to Daytona Bch, Fl. for my 11th grade; then Orlando, Fl. half way through my 12th Grade. *Work: Honda ...Expand for more
Motorcycle as mechanic & assistant anything. I Raced Small Bikes on Dirt Oval Tracks & Road Race. Only did a couple Scrambles. I Won 1st place State Championship for Florida AMA Sportsman Motorcycle Road Race in my class & 2nd place for Dirt Oval Quater mile track in 1964. Later I dislocated my shoulder & shattered the Collarbone at a Road Race in Ga. Had a 1 mi. straight-a-way. I went over the high side (handlebars) when the front Shocks bottomed out & the front wheel locked up in a turn at around 80 mph. We were doing around 120 on the straight-a-way. I had my division wrapped up. Only problem was I was riding a 125cc bike and because the track was so long they were running the 250cc at the same time. They forgot to tell me we weren't competing against the 250's. I had swapped back & forth with a 250cc for several laps. He would pass me on the straight-a-way then I would pass him in the turns. However, the lap before I crashed, I couldn't catch him in the turns. So this lap I pushed through the turns so hard I bottomed out the front shocks jamming the wheel into the frame. *Work: After HS. Grad. Winn Dixie Stock Clerk for summer. I Enrolled in Orlando Jr. Col. then *Work: Kinney Shoes in the Mall My Mom & I Moved To Ft. Walton Bch, Fl. *Work: Sears in FWB. Mall Enrolled OWJC, ValP, Fl. & completed A.S. Degree Transferred to U. West, Fl. Pensacola. *Work: Still Sears in FWB. I Was Called up & passed phys. for Army Draft 3 x (each summer) when I was out of college to earn more money for the Next School year, since I was paying my own way through College. College Deferment was restored each time when I reregistered for the Fall Term. Got married Married in 1970 They did away with College & Hardship Deferments & implemented the Lottery system. My number was certain to be drafted soon so I deferred College & Enlisted USAF.(E-1, Airman Basic) USAF Dorm Chief Basic Trng. USAF. Grad Crypto School Highest in Class Acquired an AS. in ELECTRONICS through CCAF. Once I was finished with the Crypto school 1 yr long, I was sent to another base. I tried to finish my BS degree but working Days they didn't have some courses I needed at night. After around another 2 years I was on Shift Work, Swings & Miids, So I was able to take classes during the day & finished my BS. in BIOLOGY. I Tried to get a direct commision but Vietnam was phasing down & the military was getting rid of people & weren't giving any direct commisions then. I was accepted Into the USAF PA Program & went back to school for 2 more years to get my Degree as a .USAF. Physician Associate / Assistant. When we completed the PA course I was awarded the rank of USAF MSgt.(E-7), My next assignment was to Clark AFB, Rep. of the Philippines Later they decided to Commision the PAs & I was given the rank of {O-1), 2nd Lieutenant After 3 yrs in the Phillipines I was sent back State Side. I progressed up to the Rank of Capt. & later retired from the USAF in 1992. Since then I've Worked as a Civillian PA where ever a job is available, within 100 or so miles.
