Alissa's Story
Life
Since high school - I went to the University of Minnesota and got my BA in 1999. From there, I went to the University of Nebraska for my first year of grad school. Then I came back to the U of M and graduated in 2002 with a Master of Architecture degree. I got married on October 12, 2002 to Brent, who works for Target Financial. I have my own design firm, which incorporated in 2004. We live in a beautiful 1910 house just 1 mile out of downtown Minneapolis with our 3 cats: Baggio, Pretty Boy Floyd, & Lizzie Borden.
Here's the scoop with me as of 09/2007:
It has been a busy year for us!
This spring our house was on the Minneapolis / St. Paul Home Tour. Over 400 people came through our house in one weekend. The tour featured our house on a promotional TV show, and interestingly enough, the family who lived in our house back during WWII saw it and contacted us. A number of them came to see the house, some from as far away as New Mexico, and they brought photographs from the 40's - 70's, which were fascinating! It was so wonderful to connect to them and hear their stories about the house and it's history!
We just got back from Japan a few weeks ago. I would recommend going - it is such a cool place! I celebrated my big 3-0 in Tokyo, which was memorable in and of itself.
Unfortunately, I couldn't eat any of the sushi when we were in Japan, wh...Expand for more
ich is too bad, since I love sushi - BUT, I was glad to omit it from my diet because we are expecting! Our due date is November 9, and according to the ultrasound, it is a girl! We are (obviously) VERY excited! Now I just have to finish the nursery.
In a convenient coincidence, my office will be remodeled while I am out on maternity leave, so when I get back to work in the new year, I will have a new office to settle into, which will be great.
Sadly, I will be stepping down as co-Chair of the AIA's Urban Design Committee, and as Secretary for HACC's Housing Committee once I begin my maternity leave, but it will also be nice to focus on other things. I am looking forward (already) to getting back into the swing of things with the Board of Adjustment for the city, though, so I am going to try and hold firm to my schedule to get back from maternity leave.
Update as of March 2008:
Brent and I had a baby girl on November 3, 2007. Her name is Maeryn Victoria and she is AWESOME!! She is so amazing - she is a very chatty and giggly 4-month old.
Update as of June 2008:
Maeryn is still beyond awesome. She is such a good baby! Brent and I are spoiled because she is so sweet-natured and wonderful! In other news, Mayor Rybak asked me to serve as his appointment to the city of Minneapolis' Planning Commission. I am excited about this amazing opportunity!
