Alita's Story

Life NC will always hold a special place in my heart. Afterall, it was four years that helped to form who I am today. After graduation in 1980 I went off to International Correspondence Institute (ICI) in Brussels, Belgium where I worked as a MAPS worker to missionaries Warren and Jean Flattery for a year. Then I transfered as a MAPS worker to Continental Bible College (CBC) also in Brussels where I worked for missionary Cody Pelham who was the Dean of the College. These were two wonderful years on the mission field that I will always cherish. I returned home to Fairbanks, Alaska and then was preparing to head off to Suva, Fiji to be a MAPS worker at the Bible School when plans all of a sudden changed and I ended up in Waikiki, Hawaii as a MAPS worker (I know -- going to Waikiki from Fairbanks, Alaska couldn't have been to tough!!! -- but hey, who am I to question God, I just follow His lead :o) ) Anyway, I arrived in October 1983 and spent a year working at the church, South Pacific Assembly of God. During this time I fell in love -- not just with Hawaii -- but a young man from Tonga and we were married in 1985. Our son, Latu Tupou, was born in 1988 and he has been the biggest joy in my life -- I LOVE BEING A MOM!!! As life would have it, my life has continued but in 1996 I faced divorce and a challenge -- would I become bitter over the situation or allow God to continue to use me. Of course, I chose the later. At this time I had become quite involved in Tongan Faith Assembly of God where Tevita Haileni Penisini and his wife, Vasi, are the Pastors. Using my Christian Education degree I received at N...Expand for more
C allowed me to be elected as the Sunday School Director for all of the Tongan Assembly of God churches of America (about 14 churches). This was exciting -- it's not only the situations we go through, it's what we allow God to make of them that determines a true Christian walk. In 1997 I remarried (another Tongan). We did not have children and sad to say, this marriage also ended in divorce in 2004. I am still walking strong with Jesus and am still involved in the Tongan churches. From 1990 to April 2007 I have been working as a legal secretary in downtown Honolulu. In April I moved to the East LA area where I am looking for a job as a legal secretary and enjoying my son who is attending Pasadena City College and whose goal is one day to play in the NFL (watch out world -- he just might make it!!!) Again, I am involved in the local Tongan Assembly of God church which is pastored by Toto & Kaloni Taito. I don't know why God has brought my life through this journey -- I don't have the deep desire to even know why -- all I can say is "thank you Jesus" that my walk is strong, my son knows and loves the Lord and one day I'll see my Jesus face to face. I'd love to hear from anyone who remembers me -- hey, if you can't remember me look in any of the annuals from 1977 to 1980 -- yep, that's me, the chubby one!! Guess God made me extra big to hold all the love He put inside of me. Anywho -- may God richly bless you and your family as you walk in His light and if you're out of the light -- get back in it, time is running short and HE'S COMING BACK AGAIN :O) Malo 'aupito, A hui hou, Much love and aloha, Alita
