See UPDATE at bottom! As we all get a little older, I think our thoughts turn to our old friends. It would be great to hear from you! About me: I got a bachelor's degree from UCLA in 1969 -- was on the wrestling team just as a freshman, then broke my ankle in a car wreck and never rejoined the team. I was in Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After working for several years as a welfare caseworker, I went back to school at Cal State Northridge to improve on my lousy C+ average from UCLA. Got into Harvard for grad school, got a PhD in Social Psych in 1981. Was a college professor for many years, then was on the faculty in the Dept of Psychiatry of Jefferson Medical College for 12 years here in Philadelphia, getting federal grants and doing research. Got sick of the bureaucracy and was too lazy to advance my career much, so I started my own consulting business in 2003. I help mostly doctoral students struggling with writing their dissertations. Name of the business is dissertationconsulting dot net. I write book reviews occasionally. I work about 30 hours/week and I'm involved in some civic activities -- I'm chairman of the local Township's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Committee. For those of you still in Calif, a township is the unit of government under a county -- there are no unincorporated county areas back east -- so a township is like a big town including lots of little towns with no government of their own, plus farms, forests, etc. Family: Since I'm so slow about getting around to doing anything, I didn't get married until I was 40. My wife is Susan Balee from Florida, now 49, so we have a relatively young family. Susan has a PhD in English Literature and was also a college professor for years, then worked in writing and editing part-time for years.
