Allen's Story

Born in Panama of a Panamanian mother and Gringo father. Resided in Beaumont, Texas from pre-school through 9th grade. Moved to Houston in 1965, attending Milby High School during 10th grade, only. Relocated to Columbus, Texas in 1966 for 11th & 12 grades where I met & lost the Brown-Eyed Girl (still think of her with recurring dreams of her after 49 years). Entered US Army as a private in 1970, served a tour in Vietnam with 22nd Replacement...Expand for more
Battalion (USARV) and as an infantryman with 1st Cavalry Division followed by 13 months in Panama with 193d Infantry Brigade of the 20th Infantry at Fort Clayton. Earned B.A. in Photography from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas (1977), commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in US Army Reserve Medical Service Corp (1977), and served next 33 years in Army Reserve with brief duties in England and Germany, retiring as a major in 2001.
