Allen's Story

Life My life has been all over the map, both literally and figuratively. Until recently, I have not spent more than a few years in any one place or doing any one thing. I grew up in a succession of small towns in the north east and couldn't wait to get away. I went away to a medium-sized university and struggled. After 3 years of that I decided that a career in theater was really where I would be happy and moved the NYC to take an internship at Juilliard. Things went well and I was starting to become established, but struggled financially. I landed a great position with the Intrepid Museum in NYC, a Navy memorial, that paid well but I felt like I needed to finish my education. I started at NYIT part time and explored full time options and banked as much as I could. I ended up at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical U...Expand for more
niversity in Florida and finished my engineering degree there with no problems. My work at Intrepid got me interested in the navy as a career and I was accepted to Navy Officer Candidate School after graduation in a reserve program that could lead to a regular Navy commission. After graduating from that program I went to sea for three years and had a great time seeing parts of the world that most never get the chance to see. Unfortunately, the post gulf war drawdown meant that I couldn't stay on active duty so I returned to the civilian world in the middle of a recession. I ended up back in Florida (Orlando, this time) working with my college roommate in the aviation industry. I have been there for the last 13 years....Wow! Now I am in the process of creating a new business back in the entertainment industry.
