Amber's Story

Life I graduated from MSCD in 1999 and was teaching in Jefferson County for about a year. I woke up one morning in the early summer of 2001 and found myself wearing a Camouflage uniform and thought to myself "Where the hell am I???" I couldn't believe it! I had joined the United States Army! In June of 2004, I was honorably discharged from the service. On December 11, 2004, I married my sweetheart in El Paso, TX. In May 2005, we moved back to Germany and we were stationed in Heidelberg until March of 2007. We moved to Hanau (18 miles east of Frankfurt) in March and lived there for 13 months. In April '08 we moved to Kaiserslautern (largest American Community outside of the US). After our European tour was completed, we moved to Ft. Carson, CO in Colorado Springs. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and are currently expecting our first child in March, 2012. We are thrilled beyond words!! School Can't say that I miss high school persay, but I can say that we all had some pretty good times. Most of us were a bunch of hell-raisers--but ahhh! *sigh* isn't that the fun part of being a teenager? College There isn't a whole lot to say about college. I have a degree that I'm not using. I'm looking forward to a time when I can go back to school. I'm getting pretty anxious to begin my pursuit of a Master's degree in Journalism. I'm preparing to take the GRE this summer and hopefully be able to take advantage of my GI Bill to assist in paying the...Expand for more
tuition! Workplace I've held a few different types of jobs since college, but I hadn't found the perfect match until recently. Currently, I'm volunteering at the Public Affairs office and I've become a Journalist and Photojournalist. I'm also working as a Family Readiness Group leader in my husband's unit. I've never been so happy nor have found more rewarding jobs as I have in the last few months! The Lord has blessed me greatly! Military I joined the Army in 2001 and attended Basic in Missouri, where I graduated with honors. I served in Mannheim for two years and served as the Battalion Commander's Executive Assistant, in addition to learning a new job during Combat Operations and became known as "The voice of the Road Warriors". I was assigned to the 1st Cav Div in Ft. Hood, TX when I was honorably discharged from the Army in June of 2004. When my husband and I moved to Germany for the second time, I wasted no time looking for and obtaining employment and I was the Community Greeter in Heidelberg for 2 years. It was a sad day in my life when my husband and I moved to Hanau because we had to move away from our friends that had really become a family to us. God has blessed my family and has shown me that friends are just strangers you haven't met yet and I've been very fortunate to find several women that I am proud to call my friends. Military life isn't that hard, as long as you're willing to work at it, keep an open mind and heart.
