Amy's Story

Amy is from San Diego, California. Her schools include Junipero Serra High School, Florence Elementary School. She later attended University of California, San Diego, University of San Diego, San Diego Mesa College where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in child psychology, her ABA Paralegal Certification and her associates degree respectively. She currently works at San Diego Workforce Partnership. Eight years later in 2020 in the middle of Covid-19 global pandemic... things have certainly taken a strange turn for everyone but for me, life really changed November 15, 2018 when my husband passed away. It started on my 50th birthday in July, I was told, "Mrs. Wilson, your husband has stage 4 esophageal cancer". He had no symptoms. He was 51. Needless to say things got bad pretty quickly and a little over 3 months later, he was gone. 17 years of marriage gone. Our 11 year old daughter without her Dada. Not a happy time at all. It's been a little over a year now and I am still trying to make sense of what happened knowing that what happened, happened. And no matter what I do or think, it can not be undone. Every single aspect of my life has changed. Nothing is the same, nothing is done the same, people don't treat me the same, I don't think the same. It's been a rough year and just when I started to feel a little stability, a little more certainty than uncertainty, a sense of direction and purpose - wham...Covid-19. Talk about bad timing. Social distancing at a time when social interaction is what keeps you out of your head. When "hanging out" is key to your positive mental disposition. When friends are needed in so many ways, many of which are tangible. When "going to work" meant getting your ass out of the house and interacting with...Expand for more
other adults versus sitting around feeling sorry for your situation. I need social interaction. I need options. I need to hang out with my friends. Don't get me wrong, I totally get the severity of Covid-19 and the need for social distancing but damn it, not a good time. Anyway, life changes unexpectedly. I am 51 year old widow, WTF??? I thought losing my mom was hard, and it was, but your spouse is a different kind of hard. Just looking forward to 2021 when hopefully we will have some normalcy again and I can continue moving forward. Life is too short. My motto these days: Love the Life you Live and Live the Life you Love. More about Amy: 2012 My life has been turned upside down since losing my Mom in 2011. Things will never be the same. This loss has changed my way of thinking and has made me look at, and appreciate, myself, my family and my friends in a new and different way. Life really is too short and can be wisked away so quickly. Once someone is gone, it is too late to say the things you wanted to say to them or do the things you wanted to do with them. Don't put things off - tomorrow may not be an option and you will have to live with that regret for the rest of your life. That sucks, trust me. Take the time to not just tell, but show, the people you love and care about, exactly how you feel. Take the time to appreciate life and what it has to offer. And love yourself - 2009 Life is good - there have been ups and downs of course but Everything Happens For A Reason - we may never know the reason but hey life is too short - f~ck the dumb stuff. Be thankful for what you have and even what you don't have. Keep moving forward. And ALWAYS keep children close to your heart. They are a wonderful blessing and should always be appreciated and ENJOYED!!!".
