Amy's Story
Just a brief resume--
Graduated from EWS in 1978--I think it may have saved my life but that's a long story so I'll spare you.
Went to Sarah Lawrence from '78 to '82, graduated with a liberal arts degree, then didn't know what to do with myself.
'82 to '86 I worked as a hostess in a restaurant, retail at Lord and Taylor outside Boston, and did premed courses at the local college. My sister's diabetes caught up with her and she slowly went blind.
'86-'90 Attended George Washington University Medical School, and graduated.
'90-'94 Residency in psychiatry at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center in Westchester County, NY.
For about the next 10 years did Emergency P...Expand for more
sychiatry in the Bronx at Montefiore and North Central Bronx Hospital. Loved it, but burned out badly--as you do. Then joined a private group in the Berkshires which didn't suit anyone involved. I played the lottery a lot. Took a year off--travelled, worried, played the lottery and couldn't figure what else to do. The problem being that in the end I really like psychiatric patients. Finally took a job at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen NY, and am now the medical director of the service. It's a small service right now, but we're growing. As for my sister, she died last year and I'm still stunned.
Overall things are pretty good.
