Amy's Story

Born in MI because the doctor wouldn't let my mom fly to England before I was due. My Dad had to fly back to the states for my birth, then return to UK where he was stationed in Swaffham, Norfolk. We followed 3mos later & stayed 3yrs. Moved back to MI. Split Kingergarten between Anderson, IN (bad memories - school friend killed in car crash and mean K teacher, Mrs. Stum?) & Maple Grove Elem, MI (Mrs. Reider was teacher - didn't take to a quiet Amy). Moved to Holt for 1st grade and stayed til high school graduation. Moved fall after grad to attend college west of GR, GVSU to pursue Natural Resource Mgt, GRCC for transfer courses & AA degree, Davenport and CMU for business career. Married & stayed in West MI until about 1996 (divorce) then moved back to surrounding Lans areas. Remarried after a couple yrs & stayed in same spot to raise family. Have worked in Lans area since 1996 in administrative work - my favorite parts are working on publications and other print materials and meeting our members; GR area (Walker, Allendale, Cooperville, Grandville) from 1987-1996; Rooker Animal Hspl, Holt 1985-1988; Jack Dykstra Ford, Lans1984-1987. Three daughters (Tori - U of M, Hayley - PHS senior, Amber - Elem School & one step-daughter (23yrs, AZ); one step-grandson. (3yrs, AZ). *Lost touch w/ a lot of friends from Holt, until Fbk, because my mom moved to Lake City & Cadillac area when I was in college, then to TX. My Dad did stay in Holt, near high school until after my little brother graduated (they now reside in Leslie). Mo...Expand for more
st of my close family in MI still live in and around Mason. My most favorite, and memorable teachers at Holt: Elliott - Mrs. Peggy Eggleston; Mrs. Minnick; Mrs. McWhirter; Ms. Bircheimer R.I.P. *my all-time fave - she encouraged me to write knowing that was how I best expressed myself and abilities; and Mr. Crider. From Middle School: Mr. Leonard (he read to us and I'll never forget "Where the Red Fern Grows;" Jr. High: ???? remember some of the my worst teachers, but can't remember the good - not sure what happened to my year-books from Holt JHS. High School: Mrs. Bernier (French Teacher - Magnifique!); Mr. Garnet (also French, Tres Bien! althugh Mr. Faulkner filled in the rest of the year); Mr. Rudd (a.k.a. Mr. Furley) for Zoology - R.I.P.; Mrs. Lynch (although I don't thnk she liked me as much as I loved the class - when I stopped after school my Jr year to check on my final exam grade she asked if I was high - I had to swim 2 hrs straight for Mr. Shipman to make up for some sick days I'd had and the chlorine took it's toll on my eyes. I'm sure I reeked of the chlorine as well but whatever, and shook the whole thing off; Mr. Burgess, my Biology teacher; Mr. Shimnoski (aka Ski) for accounting - when I learned I also love numbers as much as words; and Mr. Northrup - his enthusiasm for history (and current government) is a legacy and I enjoyed having him for 2 years straight!; Mrs. Withey - the sweetest person and she also encouraged us read the most wonderful books and I remember them well; Mrs. Fleishman for English.
