Amy's Story
This will be my second year as the Publicity Chairperson for the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network Walk for Food Allergies on Long Island 2012. Our Walk this year will be on Sunday, October 14th, at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Last year over 3,000 people walked to raise awareness, funding and education for food allergies. There are over 30,000 emergency room visits each year as a result of a food allergic reaction and between 250-300 deaths. Most commonly they are between the ages of 11 and 21, the glorious years of the teen and young adult, although you can suddenly develop a food allergy at any age and need not have ever had a previous reaction. Education is the key to living safely with food allergies.
