Amy's Story

Life As of 09/27/07: Madeline is 3 years old and has been attending Hosanna Christian School for preschool 3 days a week for not quite a month. She is enjoying every minute of it and has made a few friends. Its a small class with only 10 students and a great teacher. She is actually sad on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when she doesn't go to school. She has been living with her Celiac Disease for just about a year now and understands that she can't eat anything with wheat in it. We have taught her to always ask before eating something and we keep a good stash of gluten-free food and snacks close by. I have found a great cookbook full of gluten-free recipies. I bake all her breads from scratch as well as muffins, rolls, cookies and cakes. Madeline is growing up to be such a fun girl, she has an incredible imagination and is getting so close to reading. She loves books and puzzles and her dolls. Allison is now 20 months old - today! She still takes breathing treatments twice a day to control her asthma but it certainly hasn't slowed her down. She is running and climbing on anything she can get her hands onto. She has no fear and doesn't really feel pain, but she isn't terribly coordinated or graceful - which is a bad combination. While we haven't had to run to the emergency room with her yet - we have had a few close calls! We enrolled her in a tumbling class to help with coordination and balance. Ally is finally growing in height again - but still very slowly. The prediciton is she might make it to 5 ft tall by the time she is 18 years old. We are still loving life in Oregon very much. I love Fall here - the leaves turning colors, the temperature cools down again. Its beautiful. I have actually started a small business - well its still a hobby since I really haven't made any profits yet. I created Ellie-Jayne Designs and made custom hand-made hairbows. I love having my little girls in bows that match their outfits but have a horrible time finding cute bows. So I started making my own and now I sell them on eBay and do local sales. I am doing well enough to keep buying more ribbon but slow enough that it hasn't take...Expand for more
n over my life. If anyone is interested just do a search on eBay for EJDS and you will find my bows! School I thought High School was fun...until I got to college. College College was so much fun. I met my best friend, Kelly, the day I moved into the dorms. We were roommates my first year of college and every year after until we got married the same summer, she in June and I in August of 2000, and swapped roommates - our husbands lived together. I was involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship all of my college years and met all my good friends, including my husband, through it. Kelly was actually one of my Bible Study leaders my freshman year. IVCF taught me the importance of community and good, healthy friendships. Workplace I have had so many jobs since I left for college! ** Summer 1996 - worked at HCIA, Inc in Concord, CA ** Summer 1997 - worked at Marine World Africa USA ** Summer 1998 - worked as a nanny in Sacramento, CA ** June 1999 through Sept 1999 - worked at Ace Hardware in Rosemont, CA ** Sept 1999 through Jan 2000 - worked at DMV Headquarters in Purchasing Dept in Sacramento, CA ** Jan 2000 through May 2000 - worked as Recreational Therapist at Shriners Children's Hospital in Sacramento, CA ** June 2000 through Oct 2000 - worked as Site Leader for Fun Factory, a program through the Southgate Parks and Recreation Dept in Elk Grove, CA ** Oct 2000 through August 2001 - worked as Recreational Therapist at Eskaton Village in the Alzheimer's & Dementia Residence in Sacramento, CA ** Sept 2001 through Dec 2002 - worked at Calpine, Inc in the Accounting Dept in Folsom, CA ** Feb 2002 through Dec 2002 - also worked as a nanny for a family in Folsom, CA ** Feb 2003 through Nov 2004 - worked for the Anaheim Angels in the Sales Dept at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA ** Aug 2004 through present - Stay-At-Home MOM!!!! Wow, twelve jobs in the past eight years. I don't know if that's a good thing or not! I think having a job is highly overrated. There are so many other things I would rather be doing with my days than sitting in an office all day long. Probably why I enjoy being a stay-at-home mom so much.
