Anda's Story
Jack of all trades and master of none.
From St Thomas to Bell, and then I went from Gr 12 to U of Ottawa (I didn't graduate from high school) for a B.Soc.Sc. I was going eventually for Law. After my first yr at U of O Law, I realized I had no rote memorization skills, and worked for Indian Affairs Northern Development for 1.5 yrs, then went to Theatre School at Humber College. I didn't want to get to an older age and wonder what would have happened if .... (I spent much time during university in amateur theatre in Ottawa)
After school, giving myself about 7 years in stage and film/tv extra work, I was in the stage and film/tv unions - but not working enough to even subsist. Temp work covered me for a while - as did some political work as well as performance in the Latvian community both here, the US and in Europe - and then took a job with the Latvian National Federation in Canada - an umbrella organization - right at the time o...Expand for more
f the fall of the Soviet Union, and the first years of Latvia's re-independence. Long story short - 4.5 years (with a few breaks) living in Riga, Latvia and working for the diplomatic service of Latvia followed, but returning to Canada once at my father's death, and later for my mother's illness, then return to Canada for 1 month prior to her death.
Married in 1999 to someone I technically know my entire life (my parents knew his parents). In 2001 (?) we moved to Arnprior - and for 7 years worked part-time for the Embassy of Latvia in Canada. The world economic crisis ended that job but as I had already been working P/T in another job as well - in my church here in Arnprior - I am still employed. Virtually no benefits / no pension ... and no chance to retire early....
Apart from remaining moody/crazy/ going through age-related body meltdown and "mastering nothing" - life with my husband, 4 cats and a beagle is "a good thing".
