Andy's Story
I can truly say that my life has been blessed. Even the obstacles have made my life more interesting and complete.
I attended so many schools as we followed my Dad's career, that I learned value of being able to make friends and to keep them in my heart no matter where I am. Fortunately, I try and focus on the good stuff and keep the bad stuff in my memory file labeled "Learning Experience".
Moving back to Germany in '77 was probably one of my most important childhood/young adult experiences. After five years in a small farm town in Nebraska I was ready to move and immersed myself in everything that living in the center of Europe offered. How I managed to get the grades I did is still a mystery to me.
I involuntarily moved back to California in '81. Managed to complete my A.A. degree while working for a bank. Also kept up the same pace of life. While I had a great time, California never really felt like home.
In '90 I visited my parent's in Oregon and enjoyed it so much that I returned home to California, quit my job, packed a Ryder truck, ...Expand for more
and moved to Oregon. It took me a few weeks to find a job and meet the love of my life. Funny how when you are least interested in finding that special person, that magic we call love suddenly blossoms into a lifelong commitment.
Been married since '94 to Loralyn. Our first son was born in '97 and without a doubt it was one of the most joyful experiences of my life. I was blessed enough to have two more sons, one in '00 and another in '02. While it can be a challenge to parent three very active boys, it also can be a sheer joy. Between school, sports and Cub Scouts we manage to travel enough to satisfy my need to immerse myself in new cultures.
Finally finished my Bachelors degree in '07 and now work as a substitute for a local school district. I work primarily with special education and special needs students. No other job has ever been as satisfying. It is a wonderful moment when the light comes on in the child's mind and they suddenly understand the subject we have been trying to learn. I think I could do this for the rest of my life.
