Angela's Story
Work Place
I don't really have a career yet...in the Marines, I was trained to be a mechanic, which I did for 2 years. I was then transferred to the company office and was trained to be an admin clerk - equivalent to an administrative assistant. After leaving the Marines, I worked in couple of department stores on the loading dock unloading trucks, then I moved on to work as a sales assistant and then finally as an administrative assistant. For the most part, I was a stay-at-home-mom, which I loved! I really enjoyed being there for my kids when they were little. And it was a lot cheaper than daycare!
After moving back to Washington, I began working for the state department of corrections in one of the prisons. I started out as an office assistant, then promoted to the accounting office as a fiscal technician. Now I work for DSHS in Tacoma. Still in accounting, just a good promotion within the state ranks. Who would have ever thought of me working in accounting of all fields! I would have never guessed it in a million years! But when you are good at something...
Home Life
I am married to a great guy (even if he drives me crazy half the time!). I have three children, A.J. - 15, Kayla - 12, and Ricky - 9. A.J. is from my 1st marriage, and my hubby, Raul, has 2 children from his 1st marriage, Anya - 15 and Pili - 13 (they live w/their mom). We hav...Expand for more
e 2 cats, Runt and Tiger and we are pretty much a crazy bunch! My kids are my world. When I was younger, I would have never imagined having 2 kids. I am so glad that I did, they are the best!
Military
I joined the Marine Corps right out of high school...I even turned 18 at boot camp! I was sent to school to become a Motor Transport Mechanic, which was a lot of fun! My 1st duty station was in Okinawa...LOVED IT! I think the best part of being there was going to all the different e-clubs for country night! I loved hanging out with everyone and dancing all night!
When I returned stateside, I was assigned to Maintenance Battalion at Camp Pendleton, CA. Some of my favorite memories from being stationed there is going to swim qual, running the ridgeline and driving to San Diego to go to Anchors and Spurs with my friends.
I feel pretty lucky in that I got to serve in great units with awesome Marines. I really miss a lot of the things we did, such as the rifle range, pistol range, obstacle course, partying...but mostly I miss the friends I made and the feeling of being a part of a big family.
Some days I really miss being in, then I look at the news and am thankful that I am able to be home with my family. I pray for all my brothers and sisters in arms that are deployed. I hope they all know how much they are in our thoughts and prayers.
