Angela's Story
Life
For those of you who knew me, you know that life in general was a bit difficult for me, especially on the home front. However, I am happy to report that despite all the garbage I had to go through, I have managed to get to a point in my life where I feel the window of opportunity is open for me and I will be able to succeed.
I married my husband on May 12, 2002 and have been loving every minute of it since. He is in the Navy which unfortunately ends up separating us for a while each year but he loves his career and so I fully support him. We met in Victoria, B.C. and married three months later. Quite a gutsy move but we were both very confident of the decision we had made.
I am a Financial Advisor with Clarica (a Sunlife Financial company) and really enjoy being my own boss. This is the best career I have ever embarked on and I believe I have found satisfaction at last! I really enjoy the work that I do and helping people just like you.
I enjoy travelling and have been to Hawaii, England (all over), Scotland, and Ireland. I plan to see Turkey, Gibralter, the Bahamas and Mexico as well.
So if any of you are out there, email me through this site and tell me about things. Halifax is a great place to live because it reminds me so much of Edmonton... but in my heart of hearts, I still miss where I came from.
Can't wait to hear from you!
College
While I was attending Malaspina University College in Duncan, British Columbia, I was upg...Expand for more
rading my basic grade 12 so that I could graduate. During that time, I discovered a program for adult students at another educational institution called the Cowichan Adult Learning Centre (CALC). It was at this time that I decided to enroll myself in the rest of the courses I would need to successfully finish grade school.
College really wasn't a big deal for me simply because I only stayed enrolled one year and didn't pursue anything else.
Workplace
I am currently employed with Canadian Linen & Uniform Service in Dartmouth, NS. I am the Sales Administrator - Front Office Assistant which means I look after the Sales Department by organizing what the sales reps do and personally assist the department manager. My position involves training new sales reps, travelling and database management. It's a great job with a lot of incentive and my co-workers are wonderful.
Before this career move, I had been employed by several different establishments over the years. My high school transcripts don't exactly contain what my current career demands but over the years I gained experience and from what I've been told, experience speaks louder than any piece of paper a college or university could give you.
If there's one thing that holds true in today's successful work-world, it's this; if you love your job, no matter what it is, stick with it. There is nothing more rewarding than going home after a long day's work and feeling happy that you do what you do.
