Anita's Story
Life
I spent a couple of years post-high school working and traveling, then got married and proceeded to accomplish my foremost goal - having a big family! I'm now 65 years old, mother of 12 (5 girls, 7 boys), grandmother of 8 beautiful girls and 7 amazing boys, mother-in-law of 4 (I told my kids it's their turn to expand the family now!). One of my daughters moved back in with us 6 years ago with her 3 children, so our house continues to be filled with children (only 1 month of empty nest for us). I lost two of my sons to genetic disorder (ML II), one at age 4 and one at age 5 - they were my 6th and 12th children. On August 4, 2012, I lost another son, A1C Noah David Muonio, my 9th child. He was riding his bicycle to work at NASIC (in intelligence as a remote sensing analyst) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and was hit from behind by a distracted driver. you will find an entry gate named for our son.
I went to college and got an associate's degree (AA) just before turning 50. Life has been, and continues to be, quite a challenge - full of changes, new beginnings, and endless opportunities. I am still a homemaker and am fortunate enough to be able to travel and do volunteer work.. We just lost our 92-year-old dad in February, just before the pandemic hit.
One of my sons spent 4 years in the Marines and served in Iraq for 6 months. He's now out of the service and living back in Minnesota with his wife and 3 kids. My youngest son joined the Air Force 7 years ago and is now a SSGT with 3 deployments under his belt. I am fiercely proud of the service my children have given to this country.
12 of the 14 of us "Hendrickson kids" are spread around the country from Florida to Alaska. We lost 2 sisters (Marilyn and Joan) to cancer since 2015.
