Ann's Story
After graduating in 1966 I moved back to Salt Lake and attended the U of U. In 1970 I went to Germany for an opportunity to improve my German language skills before completing my major in German and English. I stayed for two years, returned to SLC and the U for one year to complete my degree, and then went back to Germany for two more years. Then I moved to London for 2 1/2 years. There I was able to travel a lot, go to the theater, concerts, and the opera and really loved it.
When I returned to Salt Lake I thought it was the weirdest place I'd ever seen. Growing up in a culture you know nothing else, but after being away for a long time your perspective changes. So after I year I moved to San Francisco and have lived there ever since. Here I studied voice, sang in a wonderful choir and did solo work, made dear friends, and found a real home. What a great place to live. I love the climates: weather, social, and political.

I had a son who is now 33. Wow! How can that be possible? My last 20 years of employment were with the Oakland Housing Authority where I worked for the last five years as the administrative assistant to the executive director. I was overjoyed to retire in 2011 and love not having to work.
Since retiring I have traveled in the US and to Europe and Asia, gardened, taken several cooking classes, pursued hobbies like knitting and crocheting, read lots of good books and a few terrible ones, and generally enjoyed myself. In 2016 I attended my class's 5oth reunion and had a fabulous time seeing people I hadn't seen for years. It was fascinating to see how some people didn't seem to have changed at all and others had a lot. It looks as if the pandemic has made it impossible to have a 55th reunion this year. Too bad!
I still have close friends and relatives in Utah and go back every few years. It's great to visit but always nice to return home.
