Ann's Story
I just deleted my "story," since it's Ancient History. It's been a while since I was on this site last, so I joined again and we'll see where it goes. If you read my former profile, you'll remember that my last career was in psychotherapy. I went from private practice to working for the VA and then lastly, for the Army, where I was with the Wounded Warrior Program. Very frustrating, trying to help impaired soldiers while navigating the Army's inflexible machine. Even now, the daily news gets to me. So, I decided to call it a day and retired in '10. Every day, I fight the impulse to go over to the local VA and volunteer.
I live in a lovely, sleepy little town in Oregon (but also known as the Methamphetamine Capitol of the West) but am thinking about relocating to Pensacola, where my daughter, Hilary lives. As I've hit 80, I've become aware of how much distance there is between all my children. It's time to think about moving, but I'm giving it another year in Oregon. Brian lives in Austin, TX with his wife and 2 daughters. The youngest, Sofia, is planning to become a plastic surgeon, but I'm not sure she knows how much she'll have to sacrifice to get there. Brian is a Sommelier and Wine Manager at a big spirits store there.

I feel very lucky to have made it to 80 and hope to outlive my ancestors, most of whom seem to have maxed out at 83. I have typical 80-year-old aches and pains from arthritis, but I still have all my body parts and nothing that I know of that will kill me anytime soon. Next year--or maybe this year--I want to visit the Shetlands and the north of Scotland, but it's a throw of the dice whether I'll get sunny weather or not. I'll just take my pain pills and wing it.
Speaking Shetland, my spinning hobby has blossomed into a little eBay business under the name annkeeganyarns, where I list my yarn for sale. I'm active in the Spinners and Weavers Guild, and am one of the few members who don't have a ranch and animals.
Addenda:
So much for my "news." Hope you enjoyed reading it. Stay well.
Ann
Addenda: now have passed 85 and recently dx'd with heart failure, for which I'm getting procedures next week (Aug, 2021) that will hopefully solve the problem. (How many times have we heard, "Well...you're 85..."?) Otherwise still in a holding pattern, having just bought a house in Tucson, with a swimming pool! This way I'm closer to my children for easy visits.
Hope all of you reading this are staying well at 85...See you on the other side.
Ann
