Annabelle's Story
Life
Outside of having three beautiful daughters and a home very close to the beach in Ventura, California, my life was rather dull and unexciting after I left Taft Union High School. My first husband and I had all the ups and downs that befall all young married couples during and after the Korean war. We worked, raised our children, mowed the lawns and had barbeques on the weekends. In 1963 we moved to Eugene Oregon and I went back to school (The University Of Oregon) and much to the amazement of my old math teacher, got my associates degree in accounting.
One by one my daughters were all married and left home and our marriage fell apart after 26 years. I was single for three years then married an accountant that worked at the same firm where I worked. We bought an accounting firm and worked together for the next thirteen years until I became ill and had to retire.
At this point, I must regress back to about 1975 when I became interested in growing house plants. I grew African Violets, Hoyas and Orchids for several years and at one point even owned a flower shop for a few years.
In early 1980 I made a trip to Fresno California to buy some very rare Hoyas and met a real Frank Buck "Bring em back alive" Scientist who had traveled all over Southea...Expand for more
st Asia, India, China and the Philippine Islands collecting rare plants and especially Hoyas. I was absolutely spellbound by what I saw and learned about these plants. They are without a doubt the most fascinating plant on this earth. I became more and more interested in them and by 1988 had started an International Organization to further the study and promotion of this Genus. It was discovered that there are more medicinal properties in this family of plants (The Milkweed family) than all the other plants put together. I found that in order to run this organization I had to become a writer for our quarterly newsletter, and also a first class photographer, because there wasn't anybody else that was going to do it. I don't remember getting tagged but somebody yelled "you're It". I have since became a writer of books on the subject and am at this time working on my 6th book and have been "ghost writer" for six of the scientists that I work with. Everybody knows that scientist know what they want to say..they just don't know how to say it in laymans terms.
Well, that's my life in a nutshell up to now. I will be 70 years old soon and can't for the life of me figure out how that happened. The truth is, no matter where you go "there you are"!.
