Anne's Story
I just finished taking some classes, including microbiology. I figure it is about time to get my BSN. My trouble is that I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Such a dilemma..... I am looking forward to spending some time with my grand daughter this summer. Sophie is almost three and very strong minded. She is an animal lover to the max. She has decided that one of my silky chickens is hers and holds her in her lap. What a good chicken, I say. I am hoping to get back into my artist mode, and to paint some big paintings soon. Life seems to move faster the older I get and I am not ready to be passed by. Right now I am glad to be done studying pernicious, perverted pathogens and malicious microbes.
Ok here is my update for Fall 2014, I graduated from Cabrillo's nursing program last spring and started the new ADN to BSN program at CSUMB. I was hired by Cabrillo to be the Instructional Assistant on the Nursing lab. Kind of cool cause my daughter Tania started the nursing program there. My other daughter Liz, graduated and got her BSN last winter. Anyway, I never stop wanting to learn more and am proud of my daughters.
NEW UPDATE Feb 2016- I'm living in Felton in the Santa Cruz Mountains and loving it. I got my BSN and PHN. I am currently working in Pediatric home care and helping run the Nursing simulations at Cabrillo College. My daughter Tania will be done with Nursing school this May and has a job lined up in Oncology. My daughter Liz is still up in Sacramento working as an RN. Oh I got a new puppy too. I'm so not ready to retire!

the kids! My daughter Liz is working with hospice and Tania is working in an infusion center. Funny how we all became nurses. My grandkids are growing and doing well. Planning on taking them to Hawaii at the end of summer. We still have Paco and Bella the donkey and little horse and Tania got a beautiful half quarter and half Frisian horse. Had a lot of damage from the winter storms and neighbors tree falling that we are still trying to repair. But what do I expect with mountain living? I do love the Santa Cruz Mountains!!
Feb 2018 Update
I have just started a masters program in Nursing Education. I have started a new job as the Nursing Skills Lab Coordinator at Cabrillo College in Aptos but still work a little with Coastal Kids Home Care. I‘m sure not ready to retire.
September 2020 Update
We lost my brother Marc last year to the flu and complications. He is so missed!! I’ve been working at the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall as a nurse for the last two years. Working with some of the most high risk and underserved youth in our county. Definitely heartbreaking at times. Covid added a new dimension to Nursing. So far we have not had a problem with it at my work but only because I introduced strong standards in the beginning. We constantly adapt....not easy these days! wish more people would wear masks and not let their nose hang out.
The CZU Lightening complex fire caused us to evacuate but we were so lucky to have a house to return to. The fires burning up and down the West Coast are terrifying to me. All of this makes me rethink my life these days. Like what really matters to me and how to get to that place?
