Anne's Story

UPDATE: March 2018 In November 2011, my husband and I moved from Windsor (this is during the 8-day power outage) to Bluffton, South Carolina. We now live in low-country bliss: the weather is fine; the people, gracious; the beaches are miles long; and the water is WARM ... goodbye Misquamicut! We live in Rose Hill Plantation where my house backs to a polo field. Our barn manager is Eddie Maple, last jockey to professionally ride and win on Secretariat (so cool). FAMILY: I am 39-years married to my husband, Joe; we have one son, Joseph, now 36 years old and lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; we have an eight-year old mini-schnauzer named Cooper; and of course my horse, Derek. Rose Hill has miles of riding trails! Both my parents have passed: first, my father (September 1985); then my mother (January 1999). I have two brothers left: Chris Johnson (class of 1967) - he still lives in Windsor, and Rick Johnson (class of 1973) - who has retired from the National Guard and lives in Ayer, Massachusetts. My brother Patrick (class of 1971) died January 2011 from throat cancer. Patrick is buried in the Riverside Cemetery on East Street. SCHOOL REFLECTIONS: My very first and oldest friend in Windsor (1958 - 3rd grade) is Sue Zorro. My locker was #8 (1-32-16) ... Lizzie Hoyt (my Woodstock compatriot) had locker #10 ... Favorite Art teacher: Mr. Wilton; favorite English teachers: Miss Boyle and Mr. Cirillo. Most coolest teacher: Mr. Ericksen (CIAD). Best Bands: The 'Wildweeds' (aka 'The Six Packs'): Al Anderson (guitar & vocals), Andy Lepak (drums), Bob Dudek (bass), Ray Zeiner (keyboards), and Skip Yakaitis (percussion). The '5 Daze': Ray Martin, George Alves, Richard Butenas (passed in 2011), Jay Miggins, and Thom Mocarsky. Crushes in high school included: George Alves, Jay Miggins, Fred Cheney, and Tim Price (poor Tim) - to name a few. Junior Year, I met Rich Save...Expand for more
lli. I was Richard's girl for about ten years - until I met and married my husband. Freshman and Sophomore years: first job ever held was working at Brown's Tobacco - one season leafing, one season sewing. Most fun, working opposite Martha Wenzel - we couldn't stop laughing ... which she made worse by continually jamming the machine (you had to be there). At the end of the harvest, Brown's would take all the kids to Riverside Park. May not sound like much now, but back then, it was quite the event ... Junior and Senior years: second job held was at "Topps" - remember Topps? (ruled over by Mr. Monshien). Fellow workers included: Ruth Dorman, Karen Kahlstrom, and Linda Gunnell. My happiest high school memories? All of them. We had a fantastic class. Summer of 1969 Went to Woodstock with Liz Hoyt, Brian Doyle, Jim McQueeney, Tom Surwell, and Jim Zitani. Brian drove Liz, Tom and I in his Plymouth Barracuda. McQueeney and Zitani rode their motorcycles. It was quite an experience, to say the least ... AND I still have my concert tickets! After graduation, I worked at Connecticut Bank & Trust, The Hartford Times, the CT Department of Environmental Protection, and Combustion Engineering on Prospect Hill Road (where its grounds have recently been levelled - very sad). _________________ Update: June 2014 - Have managed to reconnect with: Teresa D'Aloisio (from St. Patrick's), Rich Butenas (Rich died September 2011), Sue Halay, Sue Roberts, Claire Crussana, Bill Zambrello (Bill died May 28, 2011), Henry Moore, Barbara Thompson, Fred Cheney, Linda Forbush, Donna Neri, and Martha Wenzel. Joined Facebook in March 2013. COLLEGE College was a hit or miss routine for me. Attended a few classes at University of Hartford, Asnuntuck, and Morse School of Business. Am also a certified scuba diver (NAUI and PADI). MILITARY Almost joined the Air Force ... then sanity prevailed.
