Anne's Story

2007 After St. Mary's, I attended State University of NY at Plattsburgh with several other graduates of my class. From there, I attended Good Counsel College in White Plains, New York as did my sister, Irene O'Brien. I then moved to NYC and worked for a large architectural firm as the assistant to the design director. After several years, I moved to Denver, Colorado and worked with a graphics design studio and eventually joined a new architectural firm in Denver. I worked with them for 10 years and attended University of Colorado studying Environmental Design.. In Denver, I met my first husband and had 2 children. We lived in Colorado until he had a job transfer to Massachusetts. We lived in Mass for 17 years. My son, Taylor attended Tulane University and received a Masters degree in Architecture. My daughter, Erin, attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and received a BS in economics. I opened my own accounting practice in Acton, Mass and worked in the area until 1998. 2009 I remarried to Mike LaFoley in 2000 and have 3 stepchildren, Jessica, Brent and Ryan. They are all married with children. So, Mike and I have 6 grandchildren. Erin is married and has 2 children. Taylor is getting married in 2010. So, our lives are full. Mike developed our abandoned coffee plants and we became one of the first organic coffee farms in our valley. We grew, picked, processed, roasted and sold our own coffee under the name "Wild Orchid Coffee". It was a great experience that changed our lives. We traveled for many years, lived on our sailboat which we sailed down the Atlantic coast and over to the Caribbean Islands. Our travels took us to all of Central and South America and many parts of the US and Europe. Not enough space to list them all. But each trip was an adventure! My husband, Mike, and I lived in Boquete, Panama since 2000 and lived on our coffee farm, WILD ORCHID...Expand for more
FARM. We have beautiful tropical and semi-tropical gardens. Maintaining the gardens is a full time job for me. One of my main passions is the cultivation of the native species of Panamanian orchids. My collection is up to about 1,200 orchids that are kept in 2 green houses and in our landscaped orchid forest. It is so beautiful. We give tours to tourists, horticultural, garden and orchid clubs/societies. It's July of 2012 now and Mike and I have returned to the States. We had 4 more grandchildren, making up 10 altogether now, so we moved back to be nearer to them. We will be living in Florida part time, traveling between our children's homes part time and traveling the world as much as possible. Life is still good but we realize time is going by quickly and there is a lot of the world left to see! It's 2015 and we are now living in Denver Colorado. We have 10 grandchildren who live all over the States. We still travel back and forth visiting them. Life is good. My brother, George, had his 70th birthday last year and this year is my turn. My sister, Irene, has her turn next year. Where did the time go? The place we really love visiting is Ireland and next year we plan to spend several months there. Through during some genealogical research, I found some long lost cousins in Northern Ireland. Well, they think we are the long lost cousins. But it was an emotional and rewarding experience meeting them. It's 2017 and the 1963 Class of St. Mary's has just had their 54/55th Reunion. It was a great time and truly wonderful to see everyone who could attend. So sad to have lost 11 classmates! And, so sad that quite a few were unable to attend. The general feeling is that we should have another soon! I agree! I realized that I can't fit in all the details of my life. There are just too many wonderful experiences and I don't want to bore anyone who decides to read this!
