Anne's Story

Life Life is certainly interesting. It throws you curves you would never dream of, and I am more sure now than ever that GOD has a wonderful sence of humor. As I look back on all the things that have happened in my life I can now see the twists and turns that I did not understand why this was happening at the time but make perfect sence now. We still get the twists and turns, and the last 6 years have been riddled with many challenges that we did not plan on having to face for about 20 years or so. We will be ok but it sure shook our family to the core. It just seemed that one major catastrophe after another before we were able to recover from one the next one was upon us. Shortly after High School I met a wonderful man who it seems we had been missing each other most of our lives. He went to school in New Carlisle until 2nd grade. We moved to New Carlisle when I was in 3rd grade. I finially met him when his cousin joined our 4H club. We were married in 1979. I have tried a variety of jobs all of which I loved while they lasted but nothing that I could see myself doing for 20+ years,(I have always held that since you have to work it might as well be something you like to do and makes you think at the same time). I am a Travel Agent now and love it. I get to travel with my job a couple of times a year (I love to travel) I just returned from Hawaii where I had the pleasure to escort 27 people. We of course were in Hawaii when they were experiencing the rainiest wet season in over 50 years. Hawaii is very beautiful any time and if Dennis had been with me on this trip I would have had an extremely hard time getting back on the plane to come home. I absolutely loved it, I could have stayed forever. I have 3 children, DC (Dennis Casto III) he is married now with 2 children of his own. (Grandchildren are great you get to spoil them and then send them home) Kristina (my wild child, everyone should have one of these. If they do not cause you heart failure they certainly will keep life interesting} She now has a daughter of her own, and Toni (girl, dad wanted a boy can you tell) She is back at college for the 2nd time. She is attending ITT Tech and has a 4.0 gpa. I am very proud of all my children. They are well rounded people and know right from wrong. They do not always do things as I think they should but they are adults and have to skin their own noses now. My job no longer is to guide them on the right path but more to be an example and listen but not interfere. We are active in politics (Dennis has been on the ballot each election for at least the last 8 years), plus we are active in the Democratic party. We have been able to make some very wonderful contacts and meet many influential people through the party (we have talked with Senator Debbie Stabinaw several times and we have been able to even talk with the Govenor of Michigan, Jennifer Grandholm ,it was an awesome opportunity to get our views and concerns heard), and we are active in the church. It is amazing I often wonder when did I have time to ...Expand for more
raise 3 children with the school sports, boy scouts (my son is an eagle scout), Tae Kwon Do classes, church youth group, girl scouts, 4-H and the list goes on. There are still many people from my school years in New Carlisle whom I would love to reconnect with but can not find them or am to timid (insert here shy, afraid, self conscious, whatever) to make the first move. I know I have grown bolder over the years but I still am shy when it comes to so many of the people from school that I always thought were so wonderful and I wished I was more like them. The class reunion was so great this past year. I really had a wonderful time. I did not get the chance to speak to everyone that I wanted to. Some I was still too shy to speak to and others I was very surprised they remembered me. I always thought that no one liked me in school and no one would remember me. Boy was I Pleasantly surprised. College I thought I would never get to go to college. As it turns out my husband drug me down there kicking and screaming the whole time. I never graduated because I was offered a job in my chosen field right after my second semester. At the time I was working 2 jobs running the kids to boy scout/girl scouts, Tai Kwon do lessons, 4-h meetings, ect. I could not figure out how to fit the final year of college in there. I wish I had finished. I may get to go back when the girls graduate from college. Workplace I have tried all different kinds of jobs from restaurant (I have been a cook in Mexican restaurants, gourmet restaurants and just family restaurants so I am now a wonderful cook and gourmet food is common on my table at home), fast food (I worked my way up to 2nd assistant manager of Burger King, but I also worked at Zantigo's mexican fast food), building class A motorhomes (that was fun! I worked in final finish, the paint department and rework this is where you make sure that everything is ready to ship and if it is not you fix it), retail sales/cashier (in a farm store, I really miss this job but the owners sold out and the new owners did not offer any of us new jobs). I am a Travel Agent now. A job I never dreamed I would do. I love it. It is stressful at times (spring break, Christmas, Thanksgiving) working overtime just to keep up. I get to travel all over the world which is something that I have always wanted to do. Every time I changed jobs I always said it was not fun anymore so it was time to move on. If you have to spend 8 or more hours somewhere you should at least enjoy yourself while you are there. I can not see me getting bored as a travel agent any time soon as things are always changing. I get frustrated, confused ,angry (at the computer, airlines who keep changing the rules, cruise lines ect), excited when things come together or I am able to get a family the vacation they are looking for at a price they can afford, but never bored. It has been a great ride and I hope it continues to be for a long time. I have so many things still on my to do list and it just seems to keep getting longer.
