Anthony's Story

1989 - 1990 Freshman year at URI. Studied Electrical Engineering. Lived in dorms. Become a brother at Lambda Chi Alpha. Had a blast. Summer 1990 Insufficient funds to continue at URI. Saw my local recruiter. Talked to Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Enlisted in the Army as an Aersoscout Observer on a five year active-duty contract. AUG 1990- AUG 1993. Completed Basic Training at Fort Knox, Ky and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, AL. Assigned to Fort Hood, TX to the Apache Training Brigade. DID NOT DEPLOY to Operation Desert Storm because ground combat operations were complete by the time I reported to Fort Hood, TX. Formed an AH-64A Apache Attack Battalion and moved the unit to Fort Bragg, NC. Deployed to Miami, FL in support of Joint Task Force Andrew (humanitarian relief hurricane support operation). Applied for and awarded Green-to-Gold ROTC Scholarship. Was discharged to attend URI and complete ROTC in August of 1993. SEP 1993 - DEC 1996. Starving Electrical Engineering major at URI. Moved into LXA house after first semester back. Studied hard, worked part-time, had fun. Met my future wife, Celeste. JAN 97 - AUG 1998. Received commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch of the Army. Attended Officer Basic Course, Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training and the AH-64A Apache Aircraft Qualification Course (AQC). Got engaged. Married in late 1997. AUG 1998- AUG 2001. Celeste and I move to Germany. Assigned to 2-6 CAV in Illeshiem, Germany. Deploy to Albania in support of Task Force Hawk. Serve as At...Expand for more
tack Platoon Leader and Assistant Operation Officer. Visit England, France, Norway, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria. Train in Poland. Deployed to Albania and Bosnia. Fly into Macedonia. AUG 2001-MAR 2003. Return to states. Assigned to Fort Lee, VA to attend Captain's Career Course, CAS3, AH-64D Longbow Apache AQC, Aviation Maintenance Manager's Course. AH-64D Longbow Apache Maintenance Test Pilot Course. Lost my mother in April 2002. Needless to say one of the worst times of my life. Got lots of support and love from family and friends. APR 2003- DEC 2006. Assigned to Fort Campbell, KY. Immmediately deploy to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Served as an Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Platoon Leader. My daughter, Claire, is born while I am deployed. Thank God Celeste had some good friends, who visited during those first few weeks after Claire was born. Return from OIF in FEB 2004. Assume command of D Company, 1-101st AVN REGT (Attack) in NOV 2004. Deploy to Iraq in SEP 2005 for OIF 05-06. Return from Iraq in Sep 2006. Relinquish command. Selected for service in the Army Acquisition Corps. Promoted to Major. JAN 2007 - Present. Attend Intermediate Level Education in Fort Lee, VA and assigned to Redstone Arsenal, AL for Acquisition Basic Course. Follow on assignment to Program Executive Office Aviation as an Assistant Product Manager for Apache Block III. Begin MBA program in August 2007. Celeste and Claire are the best. I love them more than I can say. All in all, so far so good. I am also on facebook.
