Anthony's Story

Life Welcome to my profile and thanks for stopping by! :) When I think back to highschool days, it's fun for me to think of the many ways I have changed since then. I guess it comes with age, right? In highschool, I had the mentality of doing only so much as to get by successfully. That has definitely changed and now I feel that if my name is on the project, it has to be done to the best of my ability. Along those lines, I worked as a concrete finisher for our family companyfor twelve years. However, I hve now relocated to Portland, Oregon where I work in historical research. After a long time spent searching, I have finally found my passion in life - Architectural History. I hope to teach on the college level, research, and publish. I am currently engaged in a research project of my own for a book regarding the "lost buildings of IU-Bloomington." While it covers the old buildings, years built and lost, and their uses, my main focus is the specific architecture and it's influences from the culture/society at the time as well as the architects that designed the buildings. While this can be termed "work," it is also something I love working on and spend hours engaged in. Other types of fun in my life now include reading (with historical fiction, horror, and gay fiction being my favorites), traveling at least five times a year, being with my friends, and photography. Also a big change from highschool has been that I have finally confronted my homosexuality and I am now absolutely ok with it. I do often date, but I haven't found that special person to be my partner yet. However, the search still continues. I enjoy living alone very much, but I think it is against human nature to spend our lives alone. Lord knows, it would be nice to have someone to come home to other than my two cats Josephine and Nefertiti :) Oh, and before anyone asks, yes, I was gay in highschool. I actually had those feelings begi...Expand for more
nning in 2nd grade, I just never admitted them to myself or anyone else or really understood them. I mean I never dated, I was in the band, and my best friends were girls, hello! HAHAH! Just joking about some stupid gay stereotypes there ;) Speaking of band, many knew me in highschool for playing drums. Due to some unfortunate arthritis and nerve issues in my hands, I had to give that up, but my love for music is never-ending. I am still an avid listener - and I haven't lost my rhythm heehee ;) Along the lines of my traveling enjoyment, I have been in every state except Alaska (which is forth-coming) and five foreign countries. Some favorite cities of mine are San Diego, New Orleans, Florence and Rome, Italy, Louisville, and Palm Springs. In traveling, I have developed many friendships across the world which I enjoy very much. I love people and it is so fascinating to spend time with and learn from people from different cultures and areas. I feel that closing one's self off in our own little world does nothing but hurt us. After all, we are members of The Earth, not just the U.S. Well, that's about all I can think of for now. Feel free to drop me a note here if you would like to as I always love to hear from people I know or have known. After all, I don't bite ;) So, take care and I hope you are having a fabulous life and have found your true passion. Anthony :) Other things I'm involved in: Benefactor status member of Indiana Historical Society ACI Certified Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician Member Human Rights Campaign Member Monroe County Historical Society Workplace As mentioned in my "life" section, I had been working as a concrete finisher in my family-owned company. It has blessed me financially, but there is more to life than just money, so I have moved on, upon the retirement of my dad, to Portland, Oregon to pursue my true passion in life - architectural history.
