Anthony's Story

REMEMBER FREEDOM IS NOT FREE...... LIVE FREE OR DIE....... Life I have been involved for many years in Indian Affairs. I was on the board of Directors of L.I.F.E., Local Indians For Education. I have also been involved with the L.P.D.C., Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. I ran the Cottonwood LPSG. I am also a recent member of A.I.M., the American Indian Movement. A hero of mine is Chief Crazy Horse. This was a man that was not afraid to fight for and die what was right. He was remained that way until the day he was murdered. There are few people today that fit that mold. I am also involved with Veteran's Affairs I did belong to the O.V.M.A., Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association. I am also a member of the Sacred Bones Lone Riders MC. This is a "club" of Bikers that like riding alone and not in a group. What's great about it there are no meetings, no dues, they don't care who you are or what you ride. Occasionally we will get together for a group ride but it isn't mandatory either. When I first acquired the Suzuki Intruder I did have it custom painted and pinstriped added chrome, etc. I entered several car and bike shows and have three or four trophies to show for it from Best Non-Harley to Ladies Choice... More recently I have become more active in environmental issues by joining the Umpqua Water Sheds group.. If you like a tree hugger. At least to this date we have saved an old growth forest from being Ponderosa Pine. It is their northern most boundary. Majestic Oaks and Madrone some over 400 years old. The only reason they are cut down and left is because they are considered junk trees and are just in the way. I have photos that document this. The lumber industry as well as the BLM just don't get it. Clear cutting is the wrong approach. It creates hazards as well as displaces the animals that live there. I really don't care if anyone agrees with what I have said. In the end the truth will bear witness. School I never went to any one school longer than two and a half years so I never was crazy about any one of them. grade 1 - 3 Bonesteel, SD.; 3-3 Farmington, Min.; 3-3, Pickstown, SD.; 3-4 Island School, Ferndale, CA.; 4-4 Freshwater Corners, CA.; 5-5 Marine View Terrace, Eureka, CA.; 6-6 Lincoln Elementary, Eureka, CA.; 7-7 Eureka Jr High, Eureka, CA.; 8-8 George C. Jacobs Jr. High, Eureka, CA.; 9-9 Eureka Jr High, Eureka, CA.; 9-10 Enterprise High, Redding, CA.; 11-11 Anderson Union High School, Anderson, CA.; 12-12 Enterprise High School, Redding CA.; 12-Graduation 1963 Anderson Union High School, Anderson, CA. Due to all the moving I never took the Constitution test and had drivers ed in the car twice, once at Enterprise and the other with Mr Akin's in Anderson. My favorite teachers, which was few, was my first grade teacher, who is at the top of the list, was Mrs. Opine, the next would be Mrs. Still at Island School in Ferndale. Mr science "Ole man" Critchfield. The last one and he was very near the top of my list was Mr. Ed Peterson at Anderson High. One of the best moments at Anderson was when I hit Mr Peckler in the head with a snowball. The other best moment was when I graduated. My biggest crush hmmmmm. In Bonesteel, SD. it was Marvelynn, Glynn., hands down. At Jacobs Jr High in Eureka it was Debbie Moorehouse then Randi Smith. At Enterprise High it was a girl by the name of Donna but the last name escapes me. She lived on Belladonna St. in Enterprise. Then good "ole" Anderson, OK what guy didn't have a crush on Karen Butterfield? There were three others, Pat Wicklander, Bernice Powers, a...Expand for more
nd Becky Dickinson. My first real crush/love was Tricia Riddle. We went together for awhile after I came back from the Army. It wasn't to be as I had to many things going that I thought at the time was important. Well it wasn't and it cost me dearly. There still is a happy outcome to it all though as we reconnected some years ago and are now best friends If I had to do it all over again, I suppose so, but I would change almost everything. Why, because I never have liked going the same way twice? My best memory was graduation as that meant it was get the hell out of Dodge time... I was in the Army in less than a month and was gone. College The best part of college was the streakers in the student union. Workplace I worked for over 20 years in the fire service, 17 was at Anderson FD. I was a "FIREMAN", not a fire person or whatever is the politically correct term at the moment. The job was and adventure, a challenge, boring, physically and mentally stressful and it can be very satisfying. Fighting a fire was a challenge as to whom would win, me or the fire. It almost won a couple of times. I was never afraid of it but respected it. If you lost respect for the fire it may well cost you your life. I was also an EMT for most of those years. The bad things I won't talk about as some where extremely bad. Some of the good things was like when I delivered a healthy baby or the time I was the first one in Shasta County to bring a guy back from the brink of death using the new type of heart defibrillator. I also had the assistance of several other people, I just pushed the button. A few weeks later he came by and thanked me and wanted to have his picture taken with me. I was instrumental in forming the union while at Anderson FD. I also served several terms as President of Local 2942 of the International Association of Fire Fighters. I was forced to retire from the department after being injured while fighting a structure fire. After Physical Rehab I started my own business which ran for several years before being forces to fully retire because of the back injury. I made and sold American Indian arts and crafts. I didn't sell the cheap imported "junk". I still rode my Suzuki Intruder motorcycle but had to sell my Triumph Chopper and my Three other Triumph's. The best way I blow off steam is to get on my motorcycle and ride like the wind. When I want to really relax and get laid back I go up the mountain to my favorite sitting spot and admire the beauty that surrounds me. My wife Pam and I lived off Bowman road. I had wanted to get out of California for years. As far as I was concerned the greater Redding area has gone to the dogs. We started looking around Oregon in the Roseburg area. We liked what we saw so after a couple of years of looking we found what we wanted and sold our house in 2002. We bought five acres in the mountains west of Winston and had a modular put on it. We stayed in our 5th wheel until it was finished. So here we are in beautiful south western Oregon and I love it.... A CHILDHOOD MEMORY of something I'll never forget. First off you have to remember your f#*&ing childhood. Whatever that was supposed to be. I can remember getting in trouble almost constantly, sometimes I got caught and other's I didn't like the following paragraph. Don J and I broke out over a hundred windows at Lincoln Elementary School in Eureka, California with BB guns and got away with it..... How do I hope old friends remember me? As this speaks as if I am past tense, with the exception of a few, I really don't care.
