Armando's Story

I hope to be remembered as the person who never stabbed anybody in the back, always confronted his problems face to face. I always wanted to be a soldier when I grew up as my father before me and my uncles were. I relax by listening to music as I have an album collection of 1000 with classical, country, top 40, texmex, rock and roll, oldies, heavy metal, hip hop,rap and mariachi. I was a pretty good student in high school but one wild story stands out. I stood up to Vernon Friedli and threatened to kick his ass. He came after me and several of my friends stood up and told him he wuold have to go throught them first. Coach Friedly backed off but kicked me out of P.E. My heroes have been the union members from old Morenci Phelps Dodge Copper Mine. They made it possible for me to become a powerline electrician and to pursue my life goals. I salute the old timers from Morenci, they are mostly all gone but they will live on in my heart. I have lived most of my life in Morenci arizona except for three years I was in the service and lived in Germany and Viet Nam. I have also resided in Globe, AZ, for six years and for the past 26-years in Tucson. The one person who I would like to see again is my good and loyal friend Jake Armijo. f the internet and websites like classmates.com. I have been overwhelmed by the E-mails I have received from old, old friends of Morenci. The teacher I would like to see again is Ruth Shaw. She was a counselor at Morenci High School. She was such a neat person. I never had any negative situations with her. My first crush will always be a mystery as a gentleman never discloses his secrets. My oldest Morenci friends were many as there was only one high school and everybody knew each other. A childhood memory that I never have forgotten was I was so good at playing marbles that I have bottles and bottles full of marbles at my house. To this day I have a large bottle full of marbles in my closet, anybody care for a game? When I startaed the 8th grade which was in the high school. I immediately had a crush on all the older girls at the high school. That time was during the mini-skirt and all the Morenci girls were gorgeous but they never gave me the time of day. When I retired in 2008 I bought a laptop computer and have been contacting most of the people I knew from Morenci, Clifton, Duncan and Safford. Every Tuesday the Morenci retirement club meets and we have an afternoon lunch then we go to one of the guy's home and drink beer and reminise and yes our favorite subject to talk about is Morenci girls. We invite anyone who is retired or not to meet with us and get reacquainted. Call me at 520-440-4804.
