B.J.'s Story

Hey all, Thought I'd write out my story so I could remember it too. As you can see, I've been to many schools over my life and met many people. This is the coolest website because I've seen many names that I remember from my childhood. I was born in Jackson, MS and moved to Aiken, SC with my mom and grandparents where we lived for 4 years. All I remember from those days is the birth of my brother, having my head lacerated by a big wooden swing (16 stiches), and my daycare lady named Mrs. Moomie. We moved to Sylvarena,Ms at 4yrs old with my mom and grandparents to live on a big farm and I went to Sylva Bay for kindergarten and I remember taking naps, eating cheeseburgers for lunch, and a guy name Frosty who would bring his horse to school. I went to Raleigh for 1st grade and remember getting my first kiss at the top of the church steps from a girl named Delwin Weemes (funny I would see her later in years at JCJC and once again after I became a nurse-LoL). My grandparents died 6 months apart when I was eight and My mom and brother and I moved to Kosiusko, MS where I went to Kilmichael Elementary for 2nd grade. I remember 2nd and 3rd grade were in the same room there, the sausage biscuits were good, our principal was a 7ft tall guy with a big paddle, and I got saved at a small Methodist church in that town. My mom, brother, and I moved to Jackson first into a one bedroom room on back of my Aunt and Uncle's house and I went to Spann for the 3rd and 4th grade. I remember my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Dilworth, my first crush-Monica Warren, and playing in our neighborhood with a bunch of friends and we all followed around after this 15yr old guy named Bill Alford who we thought was so cool, we all listened to Prince on those big boom boxes-LOL. We went to Bebop records to play video games, the model store to build model planes and cars, and McDonald's to get free matinee tickets for movies( Try walking around Jackson at that age now-LOL). I went to 5th grade at Casey and remember mean ole mrs. Thigpen (she would not let us have water for anything) whose son was the Ole Miss mascot at the time, I remember that big yellow big bird rain coat I had, getting beat up when I was taking up for my brother, playing the viola, and a breakdancing contest lol. I went to Oak Forrest and Timberlawn for 6th grade and all I really remember is singing "Only You" in the school play and being scared to death, and I remember winning the tug-o-war contest on field day. I went to Chastain, Whitten, and Siwell for 7th-8th grade in some order but I can't remember which. I remember Mrs. Murray teaching me in choir and I love the choir and got to be in the state honor Choir. I remember trying on pads the first time for football at Siwell and thought the butt pad and hip pads went on the shoulders and neck area under my shoulder pads-we all got a big laugh out of that one. I played 7th grade football at Whitten and 8th grade at Chastain. I remember somewhere along the way at one of my schools I met Sid Ross and we were good friends and I later met up with him again when I was running at Wesley Medical in Hattiesburg, MS where I currently work. My mom met my step dad when I was 14 and we were in church at Davis Road Baptist church in Byram, MS. My preacher, Chuck King, introduced my mom to my step-dad who is the only dad my brother and I have ever known. Mom and dad got married and we moved to Seminary. I think my mom, brother, and I had moved about 23 times up to this point. I started 9th grade at Seminary and beg...Expand for more
an playing football again. I made it through 3 weeks and 3 days of summer training and had to quit because I was hurting so bad I could not walk-little did I know that we only had 2 days left-LOL. I went back that spring of the 9th grade year and started playing again and played through the 12th grade. It helped that I lost 75lbs before my 10th grade year. I remember my best friend Julie Folkes, and boy we had stories and fun like no other time in my life. I hear she's a doctor now(OMG-just kidding-I'm sure she's the best) I miss her all the time. I remember Coach Carnely paying for my class ring when Balfour tried to repo it because we didn't have enough money to pay for it at the time. I say this to let folks know what a big ole heart he had up under all that toughness. He also had a lot of patience because he taught me and Rita Wilson how to drive-bless his heart-LOL. Seminary is full of great memories for me-I love everyone there. I remember Mrs. MacDonald for Biology (she made a big impression on me and everyone who knew her and she was a great aim with those erasers-LOL), Mrs. Young for English (and how B.J. Walters and I would throw tiny paper on the floor to see if she would pick it up and she always found it and picked it up-LOL-she was a great teacher too). I remember Ms. Windham for chemistry(I could talk to her about anything and she was a good friend to me) (hated Chemistry but liked her and who would have believed that I ended up marrying a Chemistry Teacher), Mrs Keys and Mrs Sanford for English (they introduced us to the world of Literature and I have not visited that world since-LOL but I remember the little bit of it that they exposed us to and I appreciate it more now, Mrs. Lott for Algebra, etc.(She always gave the best advice), Mrs. Stringer for Social Studies(she was always smiling except when Tony White was giving her trouble-LOL and she taught me how to write my first check), Mrs. McCloud for Typing( her son Walter and I were good buddies)( we went through a lot of white out in that class), Billy Ray Smith was our principal as was James Allen Kelly( They both were always there when you needed them and they knew all of us), Coach Allen(worked our butts off in 120 degree heat but it was worth it-I can still hear him yelling cha-cha-cha move ya feet- and it was also very funny to watch him head inside whenever it was lightning-he's a good man and I'm better for having known him), I remember leap-frogging (all my football buddies will never let me live that down). I remember Mr. David Bringing us those Qwik-Kick drinks after practice on Thursday(so good!) I remember double-dating with Julie and Roger (I still laugh about those days) and Pam Morgan, my first love, as I'm sure all my classmates were tired of me talking about her-LOL. I remember our proms and those homecoming dances and doing the "chicken dance". There are many more stories but moving on, I went on to JCJC and got my 2 yrs of pre-requisites in one year and then went on to nursing school and I have been a Pediatric nurse now for 12 years. I have worked at SCRMC in Laurel but have been at Wesley in Hattiesburg for the last 10 yrs. I have been married now for 3 yrs and Jamie and I have our first child Lincoln Grant who is almost 3 months old and we learn more and more about him every day. He is the joy of our life. I hope any and all of you will keep in touch that I have known over the years. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. My email is chemnurse705 at comcast dot net. God Bless you all.
