Barb's Story
Life
Since leaving Osgoode - the first time as a student, the second as a staff member, I have had wonderful opportunities to travel the world. After studying radio and television broadcasting, I returned to Osgoode for 7 wonderful years as the school's Audio-Visual Technician. Along the way I even got involved in coaching both volleyball and badminton - which I loved. I moved into the public relations field, and served as the Manager of Communications for the Carleton Board of Education for a few years. Since 1995, I have worked as an independant communications consultant. Always a sports fan, I began volunteering at various sports events, and have now developed expertise in operating press facilities for journalists at sports event. This opened up new doors for me - and led to working at the Salt Lake City Olympics - in the figure skating venue - as a press operations supervisor. It was a fascinating time - and I have also had the opportunity of working at several World Championships for figure skating,...Expand for more
as well as a few other sports. I went to Torino in 2006 and served as the Venue Press Manager for figure skating and short track at the Winter Olympics. Just goes to prove that you don't have to be an athlete to make it to the Olympics! In the summer of 2008, I worked in Beijing, China for the Olympics, my first summer games, and looked after journalists in the gymnastics venue. I've been privileged to aslo work in Doha, Qatar, Jamaica and Antigua at various sports event. Quite an awesome opportunity. I love what I do, and I also work part time with a wonderful Christian ministry, supporting their training and development program for pastors. Somehow I never married, but am enjoying the role of 'Auntie Barb' to my five nieces and one nephew - who range in age from 28 to four years old! I have a home in Ottawa - which I share with my oldest niece - and that serves as home base for me when I'm not travelling. I hope anyone who takes the time to read this has fond memories of their time at Osgoode High.
