Barbara's Story
Life
I was born in Brooklyn and lived there until age 12, attending St. Cecila School in Brooklyn. My family bought a home in Elmhurst, Queens and I finished school at PS 13. From there I went to St. Nicholas HS and graduated in 1957. I worked at Household Finance, first in Brooklyn and then Manhattan from 1957 until 1966 when I got a job at American Airlines. I loved to travel, that's why I switched jobs. I was with AA until early 1975. I worked in the Refund Dept of American, first in Manhattan and when they moved to Lake Success in 1970, I went with them and drove to work for 4 yrs. I married in Nov, 1973 and left American Airlines in Jan, 1975 because I was expecting my first child in March, 75. After that I had 2 more children, one in Feb., 1977, and another in May, 1982. 2 girls. While with American, I traveled all over Europe, most of the Islands, Hawaii, Calif, Nevada, Mexico, Australia, Fiji Islands and Venezula. I raised my children and after taking care of my mother for 2 yrs., I returned to work in 1999 after the death of my mother. I got a job as a school crossing guard for the NYC Police Dept. and worked part time for 3 yrs. I left in Jan, 2003 and am now enjoying staying home and working on projects that I like to do. My son married in Sept, 2002 and has since moved to Calif with his wife. No grandchildren yet and my 2 daughters are still single. Since I wrote this several years ago, I now have 2 granddaughters and my son and his wife moved back to New York and live in Long Beach. Both my daughters got married, one in Aug. 2010 and the other in Sept. 2011.
