Barbara's Story
Life
After graduation from Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, where I attended school from '71-'75(for the benefit of those from Compton High School, or any other high school, for that matter,)
I went to Virginia with my family. We came back in '78, and I've been back ever since, except for 3 months in the spring of '83,when I went back for the birth of my niece. She was born the day after I got there! I took care of her and her 13 month old brother for 3 months, and then, returned to Grass Valley, where I've lived ever since....
Since then, I've added 3 nephews (sister,Mary)brother-in-law,
,2 nieces(brother, Pat),4 step-nephews(brother, Ken and sister, Mary.),2 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces...I've also added a stepsister, when my mom got married for the third time,a step-niece from that marriage, a stepsister and stepbrother-in-law when my dad got married for the third time, and a step-nephew and niece when my brother got married again... another great-niece in 2013, and another great-nephew in 2015
The teachers who inspired me the most were Miss Albertano and Mr. Baggett. I still use what they taught me, and still get to sing with Mr. Baggett once a month at 1-2-3 Sing! with Rod Baggett directing
I'd never want to go throug...Expand for more
h school again,though.
Had a blast in Spanish and chorus....and just for the record, after 2nd grade, I never went to any other schools but Nevada County's...OK?
Workplace
After being employed as a client in a sheltered workshop, without SSI to back up the below minimum wage wages,I did live-in elderly care off and on.When that didn't work out,and I couldn't move back home,I was on welfare, living in a hotel downtown.I had to work at Social Services, running the paper shredder for 6 months, until I got my SSI(to which I've been entitled my whole life, since the program was started!).I continued there as a volunteer for 6 years, until I wore out the second shredder, and they chose to pay a company to do my volunteer job.Go figure....
My last volunteer job was at my church.I proofread and folded the bulletins.
In December 2010, I moved to a seniors apt. complex...I'm not quite old enough (Jan. '12), but, Social Security helped make it happen...Is this where it all ends?
To those men I don't know who choose to repeatedly sign my guestbook and lie about attending the same schools I did, just know it is not appreciated, and I have an All Class yearbook. You might be in for a rude awakening if you keep it up....don't say you haven't been warned!
