Barbara's Story

Life I live in the Los Angeles area with my husband and 3 cats. I am a health educator (day-job)for Kaiser Permanente, a large HMO. Since I've worked in health care for 21 years I guess that is my profession, so I am in graduate school at University of Phoenix getting a Masters in Health Care Mgmt. In my spare time, I make props for movies, read Tarot cards/tell fortunes (my license plate says BRUJA7 - Spanish for witch - on my gold PT Cruiser), quilt, and teach oil painting. A BFA in Painting forces you to be multi-talented since it doesn't help in making a living. I did manage one of the Hennessey & Ingalls Art and Architecture Book Stores for 6 years. The main theme of my work is human relationships and heirarchies. Hollywood: I usually work for Cheryl Carrasik, an Oscar-nominated Set Decorator. I usually do fiber art for films - Wild Wild West, Face-Off, A Little Princess, Planet of the Apes (the Tim Burton one), Lemony Snicket, and Primary Colors. I did "mental patient space art" for K-Pax and worked for the Art Director who also did the Monty Pythons and their movies. Remember, I was the "go to girl" in my neighborhood if you wanted your pants pegged - 17" ankles. I like to read - Walter Mosley, Carl Haisson, Tom Wolfe, LA Times, New Yorker (I read it for the j...Expand for more
okes - a riff on the old Playboy explanation) I play poker regularly - family tradition - my family has run one of the long running illegal games in Lexington, along with some dabbling with/as bookies. The last concert I went to was the Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell tour. Vinny Appice, the drummer is one of my poker buddies. My husband is a comercial kitchen designer - day job. His clients include Disney, Universal, and the Bellagio in Las Vegas. His is a struggling blues guitar player and in a geezer band. I am a bleeding heart liberal and think that everyone should have the right to quality health care. One of the last times I was in Lexington I was in Bob Evans early one Sunday when the news was all about Bill Clinton and Monica. A table of men were discussing the issue and they couldn't understand why women weren't upset. I had to interrupt. I said, "Women aren't upset because we know that you all (men) lie about sex." The older gentilemen at the table looked knowingly at me while the younger ones denied, denied, denied. It's nice to be an old broad. I can say what I think, and I've been around the block enough times to be sure. I drink Jack Daniels straight up. Thank you very much. So, if you want a lively discussion about anything at all, I'm your girl.
