Barbara's Story

Life After high school I stayed home and babysat my two youngest sisters for a year. The youngest, Susan, was born the August after I graduated and my mother went back to teaching in September. The following fall I started college. After the first sememster, I had to quit and get a job to pay for a second semester. Worked at St. Luke's Hospital as a clerk/secretary until the following Sept. when I married instead of returning to college. (Wanted to finish college before marriage, but he said, "You can go to college after we're married. I'll pay for it." Famous last words! Once we were married, he wouldn't hear of my going back to achool!) Had 6 sons, Craig, Chris, Crandall, Doug, Brad, & Kevin. Divorced in '75 & went to work, first as a bartender, then as a bus driver (at Ft. Zumwalt for 2 1/2 yrs., then at Wentzville for 11 1/2 yrs.), & finally transferred to Security with the Wentzville District in Dec., '95 where I am still working to this day. (Update: I retired from the school district in Dec.,'05.) I have eleven grandchildren from my 4 oldest boys. The youngest married 2 yrs. ago this past June, but they have been unable to have children. (His wife needs surgery in order to be able to conceive, but she has never had surgery in her life and is afraid to have it.) Go figure! LOL (Update 2: My 2nd son, Chris, & his wife had a baby girl on Good Friday, '06 after over ten yrs. of not getting pregnant. She is the 12th grandchild & I have been babysitting her every Mon. thru Fri. since she was 2 mo...Expand for more
s. old.) Am currently living in the upstairs half of my mother's house because she can no longer live alone. My father passed away in August, '98. I had moved in that previous March to help with his care, as he was bed-ridden. My number 5 son currently lives with me and does the 'man' chores. He moved in when he split with his live-in girl friend and couldn't get her out because she had 2 children. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!...or rather, I'm stuck with it. LOL Okay! Here it is Nov., '15. Mom passed away May 25, 2011. Of course, we sold Mom's house along with all of her other belongings. Am now living in an apartment in a senior living complex; still babysitting my youngest grandchild, Grayce, now 9 yrs old; and, until recently when I had a major health crisis, was tutoring 2nd grade at Heritage Primary. Am currently on board of Wentzville Main Street Assoc. dedicated to preserving, restoring, and maintaining historic downtown Wentzville. Am also on the design committee. Exciting things for Wentzville! So living and loving life! Also am pumped about the developements in our parish, St. Patrick Parish in Wentzville. My Dad was baptized and went to school here; my paternal grandparents are buried in the church cemetary; and I was baptized here. Now we have a 24-hour Eucharistic Adoration Chapel in which I get to spend 2 hours a week. Have always wished we had one and now we do. Our Chapel was even written up in the 'St. Louis Catholic' magazine. God is good and life is wonderful!
