barbara's Story
My life has been one of ups and downs as most of you have had. 1969 I married a man who was in the Air Force and the next month he left for NAM. In 1971 I had my first child Vincent II in 1974 my second son was born Aaron and in 1978 my third son was born David. we lived in Ashatabula then my husband got a job in Middlefield and off to Geauga County we went . All of my boys went to Berkshire schools and graduated from there. Vince played a year of football, Aaron played basketball and track which he excelled in both, David played basketball and was a snowboard
I worked at Ashtabula General doing different jobs aide, lab tech, unit secretary. we moved to Geauga county where my late husband had gotten a job. I then went to work in a psychiatric hospital working as the unit secretary and mental health worker when needed. Lead out patient groups then got my "pink slip". At that point I had to decide what I was going to do. A brainstorm hit me go to college and that was what I did at ripe old age of 48. was interesting because the kids that were in my classes looked at me as a "mom" and mom's are smart. they didn't realize I had been out of school for YEAR...Expand for more
S. As a matter of fact I was going to school with my youngest son. he dropped out and I kept on going till I graduated with an associates of applied science/ Human services in 1998.
I then went into the disability field for 10 years and then lost my job. I was not allowed to have unemployment so I had no money coming in so I lost everything home,I then had to go on Social security then moved to Florida leaving my boys behind and that was pure torture for me. I got a call from my estranged husband telling me his cancer was back. I knew at that point I was going back to Ohio and if I had to live in a cardboard box under a bridge I would do so.
My dear husband passed a way with his family by his side on June 19, 2012. There is a big hole in my heart with him gone.
I am the grandmother of 4 sweet granddaughters and love them so not seeing them as much as I would like.
For all who thought that Marge West was my cousin I must tell you that we are sisters two different personality but truly sisters. I could go on with many details but will spare you all the details.
It is sure nice to be back on "classmates " to be able to contact all the people I know
