Barry's Story
In January of 1999 I finally left Tomball, where I'd lived since 1970, and moved to Logan, Utah to be with my fiancée. We were married in November of that year in the Logan Temple. Our only child, Tara Elizabeth, was born on December 19, 2000. She was 17 weeks premature and only lived a bit over 1 hour before returning to live with Heavenly Father. While in Logan I attended Utah State University to study Business Information Systems. I also worked as a police dispatcher for the campus police department. The other major life changing event in my life also happened in 1999 while living in Logan. I was riding home from work when my motorcycle was struck by an oncoming car. The police officers responding to the accident scene were surprised that I lived. Credit for that goes to God. Were it not for Him I would have died in the street that night. Now I just have to live with the aftermath, a shoulder that doesn't work too well and severe traumatic arthritis that limits my activities. Given the alternative, not a bad deal at all, really. I am retired due to disability now because of the problems in my back combined with a few other health issues.
