Becky's Story

Hello! I totally lost track of everyone since high school-for which I apologize. After Crete Monee I went to Rich Central for my last 2 years. I majored in music at ISU. Music wasn't as pleasurable as a major, so I ended up with a psy/soc degree which I never used. I met Tom my first year of college and we married in 1969. Unfortunately he passed away in March of this year after 50 years of marriage. My heart goes out to those of you who have lost loved ones over the years. We were both baptized in 1973 as Jehovah's Witnesses. We lived in east central Illinois most of our lives. Tom worked as a project engineer for various companies. We were fortunate to be able to live in Australia for a while; first in Adelaide, then in Frankston near Melbourne. Australia is very cosmopolitan. Besides died- in- the-wool Aussies, there were people from everywhere. My mom came to visit and we camped all the way to Alice Springs. I climbed Ayers Rock early in the morning. The climb is much harder than it looks. Later we snagged a job co-managing fishing resorts in Costa Rica. It was challenging in many ways. We had 26 Spanish-speaking employees and I hadn't spoken a word of Spanish since high school 15 years earlier! The first resort was located in the jungle at Barra del Colorado. You can zoom in over it on Google Earth. The only access is still only by small planes or several days by boat. We flew a pass over the runway to clear it of kids, dogs, cows before landing. You must have no fear of creepy, crawly, poisonous, squeeze-you-to-death things. I actually loved it. I came home pretty much unscathed except for a ...Expand for more
couple scorpion stings and near misses with snakes. After that we managed a resort on the Pacific Ocean going 30 miles out to sea on Papagayo Bay fishing for sailfish, marlin, shark, etc. When you manage a place like that there isn't much time to fish unhappily. In 1990 I opened up a satellite antenna business which we ran for years until Tom got sick in 2015. We hunted for mushrooms one day. I didn't find any. I got Lyme Disease instead. If anyone has it or thinks he might, I've learned quite a bit about it. I would be glad to help in any way I can. At Rich Central I was involved a lot in music such as concert choir and musicals. I usually played the piano. (Thanks to those of you who helped me get the timing right) My ONLY acting part was that of a tree in the King & I ballet. I'm sure you all remember that. Ha ha. I am fascinated by storms and watching the weather. I love different cultures, varieties in people, music, medicine, reading, photography, languages, Bible study, fishing, boating, snorkeling, campfires, architecture, animals, rocks, meteor showers, outer space, flowers, musicals, associating with friends, and travel (maybe not now). I know it's a lot. I guess I just like a lot of things. Favorite movies: National Treasure, Hidden Figures, While you were Sleeping Favorite TV: Murder she Wrote, Last Man Standing. Murdock Mysteries, documentaries and nature shows. Huggggggs to all of you and your families. Please try to keep safe and be careful during this pandemic. It's just not worth taking any chances.
