Bennie's Story
I went to college in SC, where I met my wife, Cheri (Strand), who is from Minnesota. After graduating, I taught school for a year, but then decided I'd rather eat... I spent just over 5 years in the Army: Ft Jackson, SC; Ft Benning, GA(OCS); Ft Bliss, TX; Ft Sill, OK; Grafenwoehr, Germany. I ended up staying in Oklahoma, where I was born, incidentally. We live on 10 acres just outside Fletcher, which is a little NE of Lawton, and we have 5 child...Expand for more
ren, and 4 grandchildren.
In 1981 I left the service and embarked on my current career as a software engineer. After several years of working for companies who did not like to pay much, I then worked for Lockheed Martin (formerly LTV) in Texas [though I still lived in Oklahoma] on embedded guidance software for the guided weapons of the MLRS system.
So, I have finally become a rocket scientist, but more importantly, I retired in November 2021.
