Ben's Story

Life Hi, Friend: After high school I attended Broward Community College and Florida State University. I married while at FSU (too young!) and divorced three years later. I went back to FSU for a master's degree in 1981. I did some traveling during the 80's and had quite a bit of fun along the way. I married again in 1989. Unfortunately, however, I was divorced for a second time in 2003. Broke my heart. But, hey, that's life. One chapter ends and another begins, eh? I have a very nice girlfriend right now. Wonder where it will go? I have done some traveling too. I have spent some time in Great Britain and visited Alaska a couple of times for site-seeing and fishing. The scenery and wildlife are incredible! I also visited Guatemala for a medical conference and vacation in February 2008. Professionally, I have been a high school teacher, an assistant principal and a high school principal for the past 30+ years. I have also worked for 7 years in a district-level position with Leon County Schools (Tallahassee). I am now serving as an assistant principal at a middle school and I love it! I have three years until full retirement and I am looking forward to that! I may move to the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina after I retire. I can't believe how the years have flown by!! I look forward to hearing from any Fillmore Elementary Hamilton, Ohio), West Hollywood Elementary, Watkins Elementary, Perry Junior High, McArthur High, BCC and FSU classmates. Ben Koenig I hope that my old friends remember me as honest, trustworthy, kind, and loyal. I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. How do you blow off steam? I play the guitar and sing (loudly). Describe your favorite way to relax. I like go fishing and I like to camp when the weather is cool enough. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? I wore bell bottom pants to school in 1967 and was sent to the dean's office for it. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again ...Expand for more
is Jan Harbaugh, because I never got to tell her how much I cared about her. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the master bath and add on a Florida room. My dream home would be someplace cooler. If I won $100 million, I'd give 90 million of it to savings, then spend the rest on a new home, travel and helping others. I lived in Salley Hall dorm on the FAU campus. I enjoyed dorm life. To be truly happy I would be retired doing whatever I could afford to do whenever I wanted to do it and with whomever i wanted. My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be grouchy . I was so completely surprised to find that I won't be grouchy until 60. I have been what wanted to be in my career. I have no interest in running for the school board or the superintendency of my school district. My first crush was Donna Brown. I haven't seen or heard from her since I was ten years old and living in Ohio. My best friend would tell you I'm very funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as straight-laced. I dress in L.L. Bean clothes almost all of the time and have for at least ten years. I worked in a delicatessen. I share my home with a cat, which I find needs a lot more attention than I thought it would. If I had one do-over I would buy Walmart stock in 1970. In 10 years, I hope to be healthy. I'm going to get there by living a healthy lifestyle. My oldest friend is Keith King. Our ex-wives were friends. After our divorces Keith and I remained fast friends. What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? I still have my hair and iit's not gray! Also, I can still sing and play the guitar at the same time - actually much better than I could when I played iin the "Royal Ascots" in high school. My first job was playing in a rock band, where I got paid about $100 a month to play at just about every venue a teenager could play in South Florida. What I remember most about it is it was great fun, but really hard work (most people do not have any idea how difficult it is).
