Bernard's Story

I can't believe it has been 48 years since we walked across the stage at Monrovia High and received our diplomas. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and I can hardly believe where that river has taken me throughout my life time. For a kid reared up in the little town of Waxahachie, TX (13,00 friendly people) I have had the privilege of going places and working for people I never dreamed of while growing up. All I can say is "God has blessed me over the years". After graduating from Monrovia High I had the privilege (like a lot of my friends) to serve our Country in Vietnam). Upon returning to state side I was assigned as an Aid in the Office of the General of the Army who at that time was General Harold K. Johnson. Following my discharge in 1968, I took a job with the Washington Metropolitan police Department. While there I was able to pursue a degree in Education with a minor in Police Science at American University in DC and George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, graduating in 1976. While in school I worked as a US Deputy Marshall. In Sept of 1976 I started teaching school in Fairfax, VA. In that same year, I reunited with several friends I had made while a member of the Young Republicans at Monrovia High School and volunteering for the Reagan for Governor Campaign in CA and volunteered during the summers for the Reagan for President Campaign of 1976 in VA. Following that campaign, I continued to teach until I resigned in 1979 to move to FL to help put together the next Reagan for President Campaign. As we all know, we won that campaign and that gave me the opportunity and privilege of working in the White House for President Reagan for the next 4 years. ere ever they are needed and I filled several very interesting positions. The most privileged (in my opinion) was being appointed by President Reagan as the first ever White House Christian School Liaison Officer. That position along with doing advance work for both the President and First Lady kept me very busy. During the second Reagan Administration I had the privilege of serving the President and the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable John Harrington at the Pentagon. In late 1987, I left the Reagan Administration and joined the Bush for President Campaign. Following the Inauguration of President Herbert Walker Bush, I joined his administration as a Schedule C working for the Secretary of Energy, the Honorable, Admiral Watkins for the next 4 years as Director of Special Projects. At the end of the Bush Administration I continued to work at the Department of Energy in the Office of Education Programs until my retirement in 1998. Still smitten by the “political bug”, in 2000 I volunteered to do advance for Vice Presidential Candidate Dick Cheney. After his election as Vice president, I continued to do volunteer advance around the world for the Vice President until 2003. In 2004 I once again had the privilege of serving this great nation by serving in Iraq for L. Paul Bremer the Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority of Iraq for 6 months until health problems brought me home. In 2007, not wanting to stay retired; I accepted a position as a Senior Security Officer with Lockheed Martin, in Fairfax, VA. I am beginning my 6th year with Lockheed Martin. Yes, this has been an amazing 48 years. I give all the credit to whatever I have achieved in life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
