Beth Ann's Story

I always wanted to be a pro football player or in a pro-marching band when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right. Everyone knows that women can't play football and there is no such thing as a professional marching band unless maybe one is in the military. I like to listen to music, attend concerts or go to praise and worship services. Music has always been a big part of my life, and continues to play a roll in bringing me much joy. I have sang in church choirs, mass choirs and on worship teams at VBI and VCC and have led worship in the prayer room at Victory Christian Center while teaching there and also in our home as we hosted Bible Study/Small groups in our home. I sing solos when I go and minister at times. I still pick-up my flute and play some and played that in the prayer room on a few occasions and in a small church orchestra at Carbondale A/G. My children both have taken after me and love music as well. Bradley, our son, played the trumpet in the Jenks High School Band and later in Oklahoma State's Cowboy Marching Band. Jamie, our daughter, took up where I left off playing the flute at Jenks and Victory Christian School and later singing in the vocal music department at Jenks. She now plays the guitar and sometimes leads worship. Her latest endeavor is learning piano and keyboard and is studying to be a music teacher. My husband, Randy, and I have enjoyed being a part of our children's education. We especially enjoyed being involved in the Jenks Band Boosters Club and traveling to band contests as it brought back some fond memories of my band trips. We like hanging out together, and when the kids are in town or we are where they are, we enjoy going to ball games, concerts, or just hanging out on the river, lake or whatever body of water is nearby. Brad and his wife, D'Etta, lived in Peoria, Illinois for a season, but have recently moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Our next big trip is to go see the home they have purchased and have been working on there. I also enjoy traveling with Randy when he is going to a city of interest on the job. However, he goes to a lot of small towns in Oklahoma and Texas where there is not a lot to do or see. Sometimes he travels so much that I go along just for the ride and to spend time with him no matter where he is going. I think that our most memorable trips of recent years have been when he went to New Orleans to upgrade cotrol systems in a refinery almost a year and a half after Katrina hit. To see the destruction of Katrina in person was amazing. Just seeing coverage on the news did not prepare me for what we witnessed as we drove along the coast from New Orleans through Mississippi and neared the Alabama state line. Also, all along the coast and in New Orleans FEMA trailers were still in use and many fami...Expand for more
lies were living in their front yards and were running power cords to their homes. It certainly made me thankful for our home in Jenks America where we are high and dry. The other trip we took was to Massachusetts where Randy was to attend a school at his company's headquarters in Foxboro near Boston. We drove and went to see our son and his wife in Peoria, IL and then drove along the shores of the great lakes and then on East to Massachusetts. While in the Boston area we drove out on Cape Cod and stopped to dine at the Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich, MA. It was an amazing dinner with beautiful views. We drove along the eastern seaboard and viewed the old mansions along the Rhode Island Shore. I love boats of every shape and kind, and felt as if I had died and gone to heaven to be able to see so many wonderful boats and the beautiful ocean and shore scenes. Light houses are also one of my favorite things, as I believe they are symbolic of Jesus being the light of the world as He shines His light into our darkness to lead us out of darkness and into His wonderful light. So, we stopped to see every light house that we could find as time allowed. On our return home we again drove along the shores of the great lakes and up to Buffalo, New York and visited Niagara Falls. I believe that was the most beautiful thing that I have seen in all of my life! What a mighty God we serve that can create such awesome scenes for us to enjoy. Randy and I enjoy each others company and being with our friends and family. It seems we are always adding to our circle of friends as we attend Victory Christian Center and there are always more people coming to Victory from every corner of the world. It is amazing to me that we have had the opportunity to minister to people from who even knows how many nations. I can't even keep track of how many nations are represented in the congregation of Victory, but I believe it is over 80. Not only that, we have friends from a lot of different nations. Randy and I used to play Trivial Pursuit with our good friends, Mike and LouAnne (Smith) Abel (DWHS Class of 1973). LouAnne would always guess Zimbabwe when there were questions concerning Africa or anything in geography that she thought that might remotely fit. LouAnne is with Jesus now, but I know she will laugh when we next see each other because I have actually ministered to people from Zimbabwe. We feel so blessed to still have my parents nearby and most of our siblings close and are aware that time with family is important as we will not always be so fortunate, so we have a lot of family gatherings with the whole gang. Well, that is pretty much my life with Randy and the kids. I am blessed with a lot of good friends and family, but I am always interested in visiting with friends from the past, renewing acquaintances and making new friends.
