Beth's Story
Life
Join facebook to keep up with me and other classmates from the 1980's and 1990's. It is free and we are having so much fun on it. I started a group for students of SHS during the 1980's and if that applies to you, I hope you will join. We are planning a reunion soon, so hurry and join. Encourage your friends to do the same.
I will keep this classmates profile for a little while longer but facebook is definitely better. My profile will probably be "banned" after typing this. LOL! Now go! Go join facebook. Hurry up! Well, what are you waiting for...
If you are waiting for more information about me, here it is:
I live in Odum, Georgia in Wayne County near Jesup, Georgia...only about an hour and a half south of Swainsboro.
I have been married to Rob McCall for 15 years. He is an engineer. We have 3 beautiful children: Gabe (son), 14, 8th grade; Carson (daughter), 11, 5th grade; Bo (son), 5, Pre - K. They keep us very busy with their sports and play year round on traveling teams - baseball, softball, soccer, and football.
I teach the gifted and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) at Odum Elementary School. I love my job! Our county uses the standard first initial (b) and last name (mccall) at county name (wayne) dot k12 dot ga dot us for our communications. If you can figure this out and contact me...that'd be great! (Otherwise I am in violation of the terms of service here.) I am going to school now to earn my Ed.S. in Neuroscience - the study of the brain. It is truly fascinating!
I would love to hear from any of you! If you don't have email, you can mail me at
2277 Beards Bluff Road
Odum, GA 31555 - 8157.
If I hear from you by December, I'll send you a Christmas card with a photo and a letter updating you on our lives. I truly miss and think of all of you often! I love y'all!

School
When I think back on school, many memories come from the A-B homeroom: Tracy Avery, Roxanne Bell, Amy Anderson, Lawanda Bell, Marchette Byrd, Stoney Bell, Terry Brown, Shane Allen, Sara Arnette...I don't remember us doing anything but talking - all the time. We must have given our teachers hell!
The best class I remember was 12th grade English when we learned about the JFK conspiracy and wrote essays on them. that was fun!
Biggest crush? I guess I can admit this now that I am an "old" married lady! Ha! Ha! In hi...Expand for more
gh school, I had crushes on: Scott Ragsdale, Dale Ogletree, Lionel Odum, and Chris Moore. To this day, I LOVE bass guitar players and think they're the coolest! Are you laughing Dale?
Best Guy Friends? Terry Brown, Jason Richards, Bernard Gunter, Lee Stewart, Paul Stroud, Shane Lewis, Desse Davis, Keith McNear, and so many more! Y'all were all great! I wish I had you around these days to make me laugh!
Which teacher inspired me most? Mrs. Sheila Johnson our French teacher...I went on to major in French and earn a degree in International Economics. Mrs. Johnson was always so sweet and I still remember making crepes in her class! I loved Coach White too. I LOVED playing softball with him because he always let me play shortstop, my favorite position! He was the bomb!
If I could do it all over again? I would have lived it up a little more! It goes by too quickly!
College
Roommates? Polly Smith, Tamara Grooms, and Loslyn Taylor were all the best roommates! I miss y'all terribly!
Cuisine? Eating at Dingus Magee's and Zax's were always fun! (I never could eat at most places after the Health Inspector spoke to our Business Law class on the various things he had seen in Statesboro restaurants!)
Gone are the days of staying in the library all hours of the night! Everyone has their own computers now. Remember waiting in line at the library at 3:00 a.m. to use one?
Crushes in College? Let's see... Chris Dunlap, Steve Doster, our Phi Mu pledge class sweetheart, Mark Collier, who is an actor now and has been on "As The World Turns." I made my favorite crush, Rob McCall, my husband and I am so lucky to have him! He's so good to me and so much fun!
Workplace
Well in high school, I worked at the Soil Conservation Office during the day, taught aerobics at Robix Plus at night, and at Delores and Woody's on Saturday's.
In college, I kept wonderful kids after school and managed "Tropical Tan" with my good friend, Rhonda Campbell. (I would love to hear from you Rhonda!)
After college, my first job was in Washington, D.C. working for Congressman Lindsay Thomas. I love that city!
My first teaching job was in Lady's Island, South Carolina (deep in the Gulla culture of Beaufort). I taught French.
Then I taught in Savannah/Chatham Schools for a few years before moving to Wayne County, where I have been at Odum Elementary School ever since.
