Beth's Story
Such wonderful memories!
I arrived at SMBA with my parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. R. Lock and my sister, Joyce, in September, 1937. Dean Abney was there, living in a big Victorian house. Mother was a teacher, and Daddy became Dean of the Academy, presiding at our daily Chapel services. We were there for 7 years before moving to Ft. Worth where Daddy and Mother took wartime jobs at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft. My best friend at the Academy was Norma Jean Eastwood, who's father was the butcher for the scho...Expand for more
ol and had a farm outside San Marcos. We lived in the Boys Dormitory while Daddy was Dean of Boys, until my parents bought a house across from the Gymnasium where we swam and played games. The Saftstroms were teachers then, and President Cavness had daughters, Ramona and Virginia Ruth, our ages, with whom Joyce and I played often, climbing the lattices on the President's house and running through "The Glen."
I dearly loved the Academy! I recall it with great joy!
