Betsy's Story
As of October 2010:
Well, I missed the reunion. Sure would have been nice to see everybody. Since the last reunion my husband, Merle, and I have been enjoying the company of our three grandchildren (ages 4, 5, and almost 9) 4 days a week. Merle is still busy with the healthcare consulting business.
We are pretty involved in our United Methodist Church (you know, "open hearts, open minds, open doors"). It is a mission church in that we have meals for neighborhood families who are hungry as well as a thrift shop.
Merle and I still love to bike-ride, just got back into swimming, and our dream is to learn to sail and maybe even learn to tango.
I'd love to see my classmates again. Here's wishing you all well.
Here is how I would currently describe myself: Still tries to sing; thinks social justice is a fundamental Christian concept, unlike "manifest destiny" which is not; tries to live up to that; has a lot to learn; enjoys the outdoors; loves her man (we've been married 43 years now).
Here's a couple of quotes that I like:
"If I cannot change when circumstances demand it, how can I expect others to?"
Spoken by Morgan Freeman portraying Nelson Mandela in t...Expand for more
he movie, Invictus.
"You think the only people who are people,
Are the people who look and think like you.
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger,
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew."
From the score of "Pocahontas" as she sings to John.
All the best, Betsy
School:
Dear Classmates,
We may not all think alike, and perhaps we never did. Nevertheless, I still hold you in my heart. I learned much from you, and hope to learn even more in the future.
College:
I took classes during lunch hour for years while working in various academic and service departments, such as Philosophy, Psychological Services, and Global Education. Just working among professors was quite an education in itself. They were so generous to let me take an hour from work here and there to study or to take a final. I'll always be grateful to the Department Chairs who let me take classes during working hours. I finally finished my Psychology B.A. in May of 2005.
Military:
My husband was in the Air Force when we met (through my Mom). We spent the next 18 years moving every 3 or 4 years. It was great! Nevertheless, we were glad to retire and start new careers in 1985.
