Betty's Story
Life
In 1969, we, my husband Ralph class of 1956, and our three children left the United States after he accepted a position in the international division of an American corporation. Until his retirement in 2000, we lived in many countries returning to the United States for vacations and short term employment obligations. Learning new languages, experiencing different cultures, ( I wore the "abaya" (black robe) while living in Saudi Arabia) Seeing the sun rise on the face of Mt. Everest , watching the elephants in South Africa, seeing the great pyramids of Eqypt and so much more gave us a wonderful life. We lived in Columbia SA, Brasil, Chili, the island of Aruba (great scuba diving), South Africa (great big game hunting for Ralph), Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and the island of Java in Indonesia. ft the island of Java in 1999 due to political unrest and decided to "stay' home. We have visited fifty four countries and enjoyed each of them. We have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who are delighted to visit us at our small ranch on the Colorado River in Central Texas. Ralph enjoys working on his classic cars, trucks and now, antique tractors, from a 1931 Model A Ford to his latest - a 1963 Porsche. We keep our boat and motorhome at the coast to enable us to fish in the Gulf when we have time. Ralph especially enjoys hunting. I enjoy knitting, needlepoint, collecting antique dolls and painting in oils. We live quiet life now and take an occasional long vacation. This year it was in Russia. We wish good health and happiness to each who have taken their time to read about our life.
